Procedures such as peeling are gaining more and more popularity among women in recent years. Let’s talk more about Jessner peeling.
What is a Jessner Peel
Jessner peeling is one of the most effective and fastest methods of cleansing, rejuvenating and healing the skin. The procedure of this peeling involves the application of a special composition to the entire face, excluding the delicate area around the eyes, as a result of which uniform active exfoliation of the skin begins. The surprising fact is that the composition originally used was intended for completely different needs. American physician Max Jessner made a similar lotion and used it as a powerful antiseptic for sailors on a ship.
Jessner peels contain three main ingredients – lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol, presented in an equal concentration of 14%. Lactic acid helps exfoliate dead cells, whitens, activates collagen synthesis, and also moisturizes and stimulates cell renewal. Salicylic acid works as an antiseptic, effectively and quickly penetrates into the layers of the skin, thereby cleansing the pores of impurities, dries up inflammation, and prevents itching after the peeling procedure. Resorcinol is a component that enhances the effect of the manifestation of lactic and salicylic acids in the composition of the peel, in addition, it quickly destroys harmful bacteria.
There are two types of Jessner peels. Their difference is curled from the depth of the effect of the composition on the skin. Surface peeling is a procedure of a single application of a solution on the face, while it does not penetrate deep and acts on the upper layers of the epidermis. Median peeling is a procedure for applying the drug twice, while between the applied layers it is kept for some time. Such peeling is able to reach the basal layer of the epidermis, so after the procedure, mandatory and gentle skin care is necessary.

Jessner Peel Protocol
Although Jessner peeling is a completely safe procedure, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with a number of contraindications before starting it. These include: allergy to the components in the composition of the drug, pregnancy and lactation, diabetes mellitus, oncological diseases, autoimmune diseases, skin hypersensitivity, acute fungal infections (herpes, dermatosis, etc.), purulent-inflammatory process in the form of boils or impetigo , the presence of various lesions on the skin in the form of wounds or cracks, rosacea, papillomavirus in the form of large moles, sunburn, elevated body temperature, the period of chemotherapy, the use of medications for the treatment of acne.
Jessner peeling is allowed only in the autumn-winter period, when solar activity is low. Before and after the peeling procedure, you can not sunbathe in the sun and in the solarium for more than a month. Owners of very dark skin, this peeling should be done with extreme caution.
Preparatory stage
Any procedure of this level requires preliminary preparation and consultation of a specialist. Depending on your problem, the treatment options may vary by your doctor. As a rule, in order to better prepare the skin of the face and thereby somewhat facilitate the active peeling process, you can have 1-2 peeling sessions in the salon or pick up fruit acid products for home care. The duration of such preparation is decided individually in the cosmetologist’s office.
On the day of the Jessner peel, do not use moisturizers or any products based on fruit acids.
Jessner peel procedure
The peeling procedure begins with cleansing the skin of decorative cosmetics and impurities. Special products with a pH of 4.5 – 5.5 are applied to the surface with light massage movements and washed off after 30 seconds. Then the surface of the skin is degreased with an alcohol solution. After that, a layer of the preparation is very quickly, but gently distributed over the entire area of the face, excluding the area around the eyes. At this stage, the patient feels a burning sensation and a strong smell of the drug. After a couple of minutes, the skin of the face is covered with a whitish coating of salicylic acid crystals, which are an indicator of uniform application.
To reduce discomfort, the attending physician usually directs an additionally turned on ventilator to the face. If necessary, the application of layers of peeling solution can be repeated, but with an interval of 5 minutes.
The final step of the procedure
At the end of the procedure, the solution is not washed off the face. Additionally, a moisturizer or soothing mask is applied. The composition is washed off the face after 5-6 hours on its own. After washing, it is necessary to apply an ointment containing a high concentration of panthenol.
In the salon, the peeling mixture is washed off only in cases of an instant allergic reaction.
Post-peel rehabilitation
The state of your appearance the next day after the procedure depends on the duration of the drug exposure and the number of applications. Symptoms can range from mild redness and slight swelling to intense burning and tightness of the skin.
Stimulation of skin renewal occurs through the removal of the upper layers and will be safe if the recommendations of a cosmetologist are followed.
After carrying out both types of peeling on the face, it is strictly necessary to apply only those products that the doctor has prescribed. It must be remembered that the quality of the result after the procedure also depends on the patient who has fulfilled the conditions of the rehabilitation period as much as possible.
The peeling process occurs on the third day after the peeling procedure. The duration of peeling of the skin can take up to 7-9 days. In no case should the film that appears on the face be torn off, otherwise a scar may remain. We advise you to endure this condition and wait for the self-exfoliation of the film. Usually cracking of the skin occurs in the most active areas of the face: around the mouth, wings of the nose, forehead and bridge of the nose. To avoid unnecessary annoying questions about your condition, you can hide part of your face with a disposable medical mask.
Ideally, a Jessner peel should be scheduled at such a convenient time that you can properly care for and be in a state of psychological peace.
Also, for the period of rehabilitation, it is necessary to completely abandon the application of decorative cosmetics and visits to the solarium. The use of sunscreen is essential every day before going out.
How many times do you have to do
The course of peelings is selected, as a rule, individually by a specialist, but usually ranges from 4 to 10 procedures with the necessary intervals from 7 to 21 days.
Service price
The cost of one procedure in different salons may vary depending on the manufacturer of the drug and the qualifications of the cosmetologist.

Practicing cosmetologists prefer manufacturers such as: MedReel (USA), PCA Skin (USA), BTpeel (Our Country), Allura Esthetics (USA), MedicControlPeel (Our Country), NanoPeel (Italy), Mediderma (Spain) and others.
Where is held
It is important to carry out Jessner peeling only with a competent specialist in the salon.

Jessner peeling at home is out of the question! The course of the procedure is carried out strictly by a cosmetologist. Only a professional is able to foresee all the nuances of the procedure in order to prevent negative consequences for the patient.

Reviews of experts about peeling Jessner
Kristina Arnaudova, dermatovenereologist, cosmetologist, researcher:
— Beautiful skin is given to us from birth, which we simply must carefully store and protect. At a young age, this requires less effort, because the skin knows how to renew itself. However, over the years, the renewal process goes a little differently, damaged fibers begin to accumulate, the speed of the process of cellular renewal of the epidermis is already slower, wrinkles and a dull complexion appear, and the thickness of the stratum corneum increases. Many of my patients note that the skin is like parchment paper. But the ability of the skin to restore its former appearance after damage, that is, to regenerate, is preserved. One of my favorite peels is the “Hollywood” or, in other words, Jessner peel, which is the first multi-acid chemical peel in the history of cosmetology, created a hundred years ago and, due to a number of undeniable advantages, does not lose relevance to this day. This is due to the special composition of alpha and beta hydroxy acids plus a powerful antiseptic. As a rule, I use this type of peeling to solve such problems as: acne, post-acne, signs of photoaging, superficial wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, increased sebaceous glands. Thanks to the “Hollywood” peeling, we also achieve relief alignment, skin radiance and lifting.
The number of procedures, as well as the depth of exposure, I select individually depending on the type of skin. Peeling has a cumulative effect, and the course varies from two to six sessions with a break of 2-6 weeks. Peeling is aggressive, so it can only be done during periods of low solar activity. In the post-peeling period, it is necessary to restore the water balance with moisturizers, as well as use sunscreen. In general, the recovery period after any median peeling takes about a week, accompanied by redness, slight swelling, severe skin tightness and the discharge of the formed scales and crusts. However, all the discomfort pays off with the result.
Do not forget that any, even the most balanced peeling, has a number of contraindications, such as: rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, herpes in the active stage, allergies to any of the components, pregnancy and lactation.
Thus, the beautician and the patient have the opportunity to solve several problems at once with the help of Jessner peeling. After complete recovery, the skin looks much fresher and younger.
