Peach-plum hybrid name
A peach hybrid can be obtained by crossing it with a plum, cherry or apricot. All of these fruit trees belong to the plum family. New types of fruits have an interesting appearance and taste characteristics.
Crossing these two fruit trees is the most popular. As a result of selection, a new species has been developed – plum nectarine.
Fruit characteristic:
- the pulp is yellow, not juicy;
- the skin is matte, thin;
- outwardly, the fruits resemble a peach, without pubescence.
Do not confuse plum nectarine with peach plum. These are completely different trees. Saplings of the first type do not look like a plum or a peach. The leaves are elongated, like a nectarine tree.
Nectarines are not plum hybrids. It is the result of a peach kidney mutation
Nectarines are non-pubescent fruits. They can even appear on peach trees, as peaches sometimes grow on nectarine branches.
There is another hybrid of nectarine with plum and apricot. This is nectakotum. The variety has incorporated the characteristics of all these fruits. The fruit looks like a peach, the flesh is like an apricot, and the skin is dark like a plum.
A popular variety of nectakotum is the sharafuga. The trees are winter-hardy, begin to bear fruit in the 2-3rd year. The fruits are sweeter and larger than plums, the skin is purple-lilac. Their shape is rounded like that of an apricot. The pulp is juicy, the stone separates well. The taste is sweet with a slight sourness, it is a combination of plum and apricot.
There are such varieties:
- “Picherin”. The variety has appeared recently. It was bred as a result of crossing peach and nectarine, respectively, the taste turned out to be similar to these two fruits. The fruits are large with a smooth skin.
- Mango nectarine. It tastes like mango. The variety is obtained as a result of the rebirth of two types of peaches with light pulp.
- Apple nectarine. The species was obtained by crossing an apple tree and a nectarine. Fruits are 2 times smaller than plum hybrids. The shape is oblong, the skin is smooth, pink in color. From a distance, the fruits look like apples. The pulp is white, juicy. Sometimes it is creamy. The taste is sweet and sour.
All hybrid fruits incorporate the maternal traits of the crossed varieties.
Peach hybrids are more resistant to frost and disease. They can be grown not only in the southern regions, but also in the middle lane. The fruits are distinguished by good transportability.
