Outdated school education in Russia: the opinion of a teacher and psychologist
The qualities that were in value in the days of our mums and dads have now lost all meaning. And we still can’t get used to it.
The world is changing rapidly now. It’s amazing how fast it is. Therefore, many professions simply die, those specialists that were in demand yesterday are of no use to anyone today, and those that are snapped up today will be out of work tomorrow. There is a demand for such specialties, which are difficult to fit in your head. For example, a systems biotechnologist or a specialist in overcoming environmental disasters.
We in this world feel like strangers. Just like our children: after all, we, parents, school, the entire educational system stuff them with unnecessary knowledge, instill archaic qualities. But we cannot prepare for the new reality.
“During the Soviet era, education was central to the state system,” says teacher Zoya Demyanova. – After all, the development of the country depended on him. People with higher education were considered intellectually advanced. They were called “the best minds”, they fought for them! And now the scanty fundamental knowledge that is received in universities has nothing to do with real life. Encyclopedic thinking is not appreciated in the modern world. It is important to be flexible and adapt to any situation. Note that now it is not who has been sitting with books for days and nights who are more successful now, but who was able to get into harmony with time. Speed, fragmented thinking and the Internet have taken over the world. ”
Is this good or bad? It’s just a fact that you have to accept and be guided by.
A diploma is not a guarantee of a brighter future
This theory is confirmed by the American writer, blogger and speaker Michael Ellsberg in his book “Millionaire Without a Degree”, published in 2012:
“You have been indoctrinated with a false belief. You were told: if you study diligently at school, enter a good university and graduate with success, then success in life is guaranteed. Perhaps it was 50 years ago. But today everything is different. If you want to be successful in today’s world, you need to focus on acquiring skills that are useful in real life, and work on developing those qualities and skills that will allow you to significantly outperform graduate students. It doesn’t matter if you studied at the university or not.
Of course, at the university you can develop erudition, hone your critical thinking skills, broaden your horizons, delightingly plunge into the rich cultural and intellectual heritage of great thinkers. However, having received a diploma, now you can no longer count on successful employment with an employment guarantee for the next 40 years with the subsequent receipt of a good pension. It’s time to look for new ways. “
“The XNUMXst century is a time of great opportunities, when you can achieve success without even having seven spans in your forehead,” says psychologist Elena Vasnetsova. – The Internet has become a real platform not only for communication, but also for work. Look, already young people with the help of social networks can earn fabulous money. For example, they organize various marathons of personal growth or open their own online weight loss courses. And those who sat their pants at the student desks, and remained out of work. For example, someone was afraid to go out into the real world and decided to continue working at the university, albeit as an employee. And someone sits quietly and is content with what life gives him. “
The specialist does not deny: people with higher education are distinguished by their intelligence. But, unfortunately, they cannot feel the pleasure of self-realization, since they do not have communication skills, quick thinking and the ability to present themselves. The question arises: why waste time studying if it does not guarantee a brighter future?
“On the other hand, those who jump on the top of the Web and are pumped with relevant skills may not have the knowledge and ability to analyze. The result is a constant dissonance: either there is a lack of knowledge or skills, ”the psychologist continues.
According to Elena Vasnetsova, a lot depends on the person himself – the time at which he was born, when he was raised, is no longer so important. If from childhood he has a desire for development, improvement and success, then he will achieve his goals by any means.
The influence of the family also cannot be underestimated. The immediate environment has a huge impact on the formation of personality. If adults are constantly working on themselves, actively moving up the career ladder, then the child will subconsciously reach for something greater. If the parents just lived their lives, then by doing so they showed the child that he needed to go with the flow and not stick out.
“There is also a category of parents who consider children as their property: they say, we have given birth and will bring up for ourselves. Such children then for a very long time cannot crawl out from under their mother’s skirt. In principle, many parents are guilty of overprotectiveness. They do not allow children to make decisions, to choose something. After all, it starts from the first years, when they are just learning to hold a toy in their hands … Then, in adulthood, they become scared to write life with their own hand: what parents say they do, ”the psychologist believes.
According to the expert, because of such overprotection in middle age, a person often has a crisis when he begins to consciously think about whether he likes his job, whether he is satisfied with life in general. It often becomes quite difficult to change something. Many give up and let things take their course.
Psychologist Mikhail Labkovsky believes that it is not necessary to decide everything for the child. You should always try to give him a choice – within the reasonable, of course. “What do you want for breakfast today? What are we going to do today? We have 1,5 thousand rubles, we want to buy you shorts and a T-shirt. Choose them yourself. “
You should not take your baby’s day so that he does not have a second of free time. He should have time to think about what he likes to do and what he doesn’t. Therefore, offer different types of activities, creativity, but do not press. The child will try and decide for himself what he likes best.
“The child grows up, and if you ask him for all sorts of reasons what he would like, then everything will be fine with his wishes. And then by the age of 15-16 he will begin to understand what he wants to do next. Of course, he may be wrong, but that’s okay. You don’t need to force anyone to enter a university either: he will unlearn for five years, and then he will live with an unloved profession all his life! ” – says Mikhail Labkovsky.
And the phrase “I know better” is generally worth forgetting. In some areas of life, our children are better oriented than we are. The same digital technologies are given to them with enviable ease. So try to listen to him.
