Milk is different. Cow, goat, sheep or even mare have been eaten by humans for many centuries. Recently, its plant substitutes, made from soybeans or cereals, such as oats, are becoming more common.
Oat milk is not milk in the literal sense of the word, but it can be an excellent substitute for a familiar product. It can be drunk in its pure form, prepared with milk porridge and cocktails, and even added to tea or coffee. To prepare 500-550 ml of oat milk, you will need the following products: – 30 g of oat grains; – 6 date fruits; – about 500 ml of water.
You will also need: – a powerful mixer or blender; – cloth for straining.
Oat milk is good for people who are allergic to cow’s milk or who deliberately avoid animal products, such as vegans
Before preparing milk, thoroughly rinse the oatmeal grains with running water at least twice to remove dust and other possible dirt from them. Transfer the clean oats to a bowl, cover with water in a ratio of 1: 3. Soak the dates in another bowl in the same way. Leave the grains with fruits to soak for 8-10 hours, for example overnight.
Oat milk can also be made from rolled oats. In this case, it will be enough to soak the flakes for 20 minutes. In this case, you should not squeeze the cake too much so that oat mucus does not get into the milk.
In the morning, drain the water from the oats, rinse the grains well again under running water. Carefully drain the water from the dates into a measuring glass, add so much pure water to it to make a volume of 500 ml.
The cake made from the production of oat milk can be used to make cookies, add it to pancake or pancake dough, or simply eat it at breakfast, mixed with cereal granola.
Beat the soaked oats and dates, as well as the date infusion with a blender at medium speed, first for about 1 minute, then at maximum power for 30–40 seconds. As a result, you should have a creamy liquid of the consistency of liquid cream, in principle, already ready to use.
But in order to make it as similar as possible to milk, you will have to perform another operation, for which you will need a piece of cloth to filter the resulting thick milk through it. Gauze is not suitable for this purpose, since small cake will penetrate through it, even folded several times. Better to take a relatively dense material and build a kind of bag out of it. Strain the oat milk, squeeze out the rest of the cake. At the exit, you will get about half a liter of oat milk, which can be used further at your discretion.
