General description of the disease
Adnexitis (salpingo-oophoritis from sálpinx – pipe and oophoron – ovary) – inflammation of the uterine appendages. Most often, the inflammatory process captures the tube and ovary and spreads to the pelvic peritoneum. Isolated organ damage is very rare. The disease can be localized both on one side of the appendages, and on both sides at the same time. Untimely treatment of adnexitis can lead to adhesion of the fallopian tubes, the formation of adhesions. As a consequence, this threatens with obstruction of the fallopian tubes, infertility, hormonal imbalance and menstrual cycle, early menopause.
Diagnosis of the disease is carried out by intravaginal palpation, ultrasound, bacterial culture of secretions and a general blood test. When a blood test is performed, an increased number of leukocytes is observed.

With an advanced disease that has developed into a chronic form, surgery is indicated to remove the affected tissues and adhesions along with part of the organ or with the complete removal of the ovary and tube. During the period of remission of the disease, courses of physiotherapy and treatment are prescribed in sanatorium-resort areas. Mandatory in the acute and subacute stages is correct and balanced nutrition, which involves adherence to a diet that excludes all allergenic foods.
