Nose drops for pregnant women

The immunity of a pregnant woman is weakened and a runny nose may appear at the slightest hypothermia. To avoid complications, it is necessary to treat it in a timely manner, and here it is important to know what drops can be used by pregnant women.

How to choose nose drops for pregnant women?

Today in pharmacies there are no remedies for the common cold that would have been created specifically for expectant mothers. But from the range presented, you can choose the appropriate drug, guided by the doctor’s recommendations.

Nose drops for pregnant women should not negatively affect the fetus

When selecting nasal drops for expectant mothers, one should take into account:

  • gestational age – it is especially important to select a drug with caution in the first trimester, during this period there is a high risk of complications in the child;
  • a woman’s sensitivity to the constituent components to which an allergy may occur;
  • the substances that form the basis of the drops – the composition should contain only components approved for use, which will not have a negative effect on the fetus.

It is better not to use medicines at all if the runny nose does not cause much discomfort, but to try to provide the pregnant woman with warmth and peace. But sometimes you can’t do without the use of drops – in this case, you need to consult a doctor who will prescribe the funds allowed at the time of bearing the child.

What drops are allowed for pregnant women?

For the expectant mother and baby, drops are considered safe:

  • based on sea water: Aquamaris, Aqualor. Their composition is based on a sea salt solution, which is well suited for moisturizing the nasal mucosa and reducing its swelling;
  • with essential oils, for example, Pinosol. They contain components of medicinal plants, perfectly relieve nasal congestion and eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane, but they should be used with caution by pregnant women prone to allergies;
  • homeopathic, for example, Euphorbium compositum. They contain herbal ingredients, they do an excellent job with the normalization of nasal breathing;
  • homemade effective traditional medicine: an aqueous solution of salt, aloe juice.

It is not recommended to use vasoconstrictor drops during the period of gestation. Although they very quickly relieve a woman’s condition with a cold and have a long-lasting effect, they can not affect the development of the baby in the best way.

The choice of nose drops during pregnancy should be approached with special care. You should not prescribe them yourself – it is better to consult with your doctor.
