Neurovit is a drug used in general medicine and neurology in the treatment of peripheral nerve diseases of various origins. The preparation contains a complex of B vitamins and is available only on prescription. What does the Neurovit leaflet say? What are the opinions about it? Is there a substitute for this preparation?
Neurovit – composition and action
Neurovit is a drug that contains a mixture of vitamins B1, B6 and B12. One Neurovit film-coated tablet contains:
- thiamine hydrochloride (Thiamini hydrochloridum) (vitamin B1) – 100 mg,
- pyridoxine hydrochloride (Pyridoxini hydrochloridum) (vitamin B6) – 200 mg,
- cyanocobalamin (Cyanocobalaminum) (vitamin B12) – 0,20 mg.
The complex of these vitamins plays many important roles in the human body. They support the body’s metabolism by helping it produce essential substances such as neurotransmitters and red blood cells.
Vitamin B1, or thiamin, helps the body convert food into energy. The human brain depends on vitamin B1 to metabolize glucose, and the nerves need it to function properly. Women need 1,1 milligrams and men should get 1,2 milligrams of vitamin B1 daily.
Vitamin B6 activates enzymes responsible for the production of energy, neurotransmitters, red blood cells, and white blood cells that support the immune system. Vitamin B6 eliminates the amino acid homocysteine from the blood. High homocysteine levels are associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
In turn, the human body requires vitamin B12 to produce neurotransmitters, hemoglobin, and DNA. It also lowers homocysteine levels, but in a different way to vitamin B6. Vitamin B12 helps convert homocysteine into S-adenosylmethionine or SAMe, which is essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin and vitamins. SAMe is used to treat osteoarthritis and depression, and can help relieve pain from fibromyalgia. The recommended daily intake of vitamin B12 is 2,4 micrograms for men and women.
In the treatment of nervous system disorders, B vitamins work by replenishing the associated vitamin B deficiencies and stimulating the natural healing processes of the nervous tissues. There are studies showing the analgesic effect of vitamin B1.
Neurovit is used in disorders of the nervous system caused by a deficiency of B vitamins. In particular, Neurovit is used as an adjunct in the treatment of peripheral nerve diseases of various origins, such as polyneuropathy, neuralgia and inflammation of the peripheral nerves.

Neurovit – dosage and precautions
Neurovit is intended for people over 18 years of age. At present, the safety of Neurovit in children and adolescents under 18 years of age has not been established. The dosage of Neurovit should be as follows:
- 1 film-coated tablet once a day
- in individual cases, the dose may be increased to 1 film-coated tablet three times a day.
Neurovit tablets should be taken after a meal, swallowed with a little water. The duration of use of Neurovit depends on the patient’s disease. Your doctor will decide on the appropriate duration of use. After 4 weeks of use at the latest, a decision should be made to reduce the dose of Neurovit.
Remember that before taking any medicine, including Neurovit, consult a doctor or pharmacist, as not every person should take it.
If the daily dose of vitamin B6 is exceeded or it exceeds 50 mg, or if the dose taken for a shorter period exceeds 1 g of vitamin B6, pins and needles in the hands or feet (symptoms of peripheral sensory neuropathy or paraesthesia) may occur. If you experience a prickling or tingling sensation or other side effects, please contact your doctor who will change the dosage or advise you to discontinue the drug.

Neurovit – contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of Neurovit is hypersensitivity / allergy to substances contained in the preparation. Neurovit should not be used by children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Neurovit is also not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
In case of pregnancy, it is the doctor who should decide about the possibility of using Neurovit. However, there is some evidence that Neurovit has an adverse effect on the development of the embryo, the fetus in the prenatal and postnatal period.
Breastfeeding women should not use Neurovit as vitamins B1, B6 and B12 pass into breast milk. A high concentration of vitamin B6 can inhibit milk secretion.
Driving a car and other mechanical machines is not a contraindication to taking Neurovit. This preparation does not affect mental and visual perception.
Neurovit – side effects
Like every drug, Neurovit can also cause some side effects. They occur quite rarely or very rarely. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t show up at all. Here is a list of side effects that may occur after taking Neurovit:
- general disorders – including headaches and dizziness,
- stomach and intestinal disorders – including nausea
- nervous system disorders – long-term intake (within 6 to 12 months) of a daily dose of vitamin B6 exceeding 50 mg may cause peripheral neuropathy,
- disorders of the immune system – hypersensitivity reaction, e.g. sweating, tachycardia or skin reactions such as itching and urticaria.

Neurovit – overdose
If you have taken a larger dose of Neurovit than prescribed by your doctor, or a larger dose than recommended in this leaflet, you should go to the nearest health facility for help.
In the event of an overdose of Neurovit, conduction of nerve impulses may be suppressed. Too long use of the preparation may show neurotoxic effects, cause peripheral neuropathy, neuropathy with ataxia and sensory disturbances, convulsions with EEG changes and in very rare cases hypochromic anemia and seborrheic dermatitis.
Neurovit – reviews
The drug Neurovit reviews is diverse. However, the positive ones prevail – users appreciate the drug, incl. for the effectiveness of action – aches and cramps stop bothering you.
Neurovit – replacement
If there is a need to use a substitute for Neurovit, consult a physician who will select the appropriate preparation for the needs of a particular patient. The replacement must be used according to the specialist’s recommendations.
