It is not known exactly who and when came up with the idea of celebrating this day, according to one version, the founder of this holiday of permitted gluttony was Thomas Roy, a former radio host, television actor and co-founder of Wellcat Holidays & … The holiday became known precisely as a day that is completely unsuitable for observing any diets. Quite the opposite – today is the only day of the year when you can break all the laws made to maintain (or acquire) a thin waist and enjoy food that you really adore.

Today is the day when you can not look at the list of prohibited foods, today you can afford a treat or a dish that you would never try under normal circumstances.

But, on the other hand, it was on this day that do not risk your health, well-being and mood in order to challenge unknown delicacies.

This unusual holiday has another side. For example, many Americans who have been convinced in recent years believe that such an anti-dietary exercise only dampens and relaxes the willpower of a person struggling with obesity.

And this opinion is no coincidence: obesity is a major health problem for America… Over the past 20 years, the United States has seen a literally dramatic increase in the number of obese people. Obesity is known to be one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer and diabetes.

As you know, various degrees of obesity are determined by the Body Mass Index (BMI): numbers 25-29,99 indicate overweight (pre-obesity), 30-34,99 – about first degree obesity. According to 2009 statistics, only Colorado residents had a BMI of less than 20%, which indicates a normal weight.

Residents of 33 states had a BMI equal to or greater than 25, and residents of 9 of these states (Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and West Virginia) had a BMI equal to or greater than 30%.

The Russian “answer” to the American holiday is (Healthy Eating Day), which is celebrated annually.
