Mustache in women: waxing or discoloration?

We all have a little down above our upper lip. Simply in women, it does not develop as much as in men. And yet, some women are embarrassed by too visible down. Here are our tips for putting an end to the mustache in women.

Mustache in women: why?

It is important to know above all that the mustache in women is not a “real” mustache, it is a down and not mature hair. Indeed, from birth, we wear a small down all over the body, which aims to protect the skin. During puberty, some areas of down turn into hair, and others remain down.

In women, the down at the level of the upper lip remains a down throughout life. However, the down can be more or less provided, more or less visible, depending on your skin tone, the natural shade of your hair and your body hair. Aesthetically, it can be a real annoyance, which you can easily get rid of.

Mustache waxing: what precautions should you take?

The mistake with a woman’s mustache would be to treat this area as one would treat the armpits or the legs. These are fine hairs, not thick, solid hairs. Forget immediately razors, depilatory creams and electric epilators that would activate the hair follicle and give rise to unsightly regrowth: the hairs always grow back darker and more solid.

For the less cozy, waxing, threading, or even tweezers can be done. Be careful, however, this operation will have to be repeated every 3 weeks, which quickly represents a certain amount to be paid to the beautician. In addition, the hair removal session is not very pleasant if you are sensitive.

If you want to get rid of it for good, you can opt for laser mustache hair removal. This technique should be performed by an expert in a salon or at a dermatologist. Laser hair removal has the advantage of being permanent. It requires several sessions which can be a bit painful and above all expensive. Laser hair removal is indeed a rather expensive method, on the other hand, the investment is quickly amortized because you will no longer have to go to the beautician every 3 weeks.

Good to know: laser hair removal will not work on very light hair.

Mustache discoloration: what to do?

If your down is not too thick, why not focus on fading? Less expensive and easier to perform, bleaching makes the hairs very clear, almost transparent, so that they are no longer visible. If you have fair skin, this solution will be ideal. On the other hand, if you have mixed or black skin, platinum blonde hair may be more visible than anything else. Better to focus on hair removal.

To discolour mustache in women, there are mustache discoloration kits. They contain a bleaching product based on peroxide, ammonia or hydrogen peroxide, which will lighten even dark hairs. Depending on the brand, it sometimes takes several discolorations before obtaining very light hairs.

The product contained in the kit is to be applied to the down, to leave on, then to rinse. The components of this type of product can be very aggressive for the skin, we recommend that you carry out an allergy test before: put a little product in the crook of the elbow or wrist and leave for a few minutes to see if your skin reacts. Rinse and wait 24 hours to be sure there is no reaction. It would be a shame to end up with a red plaque instead of a mustache!

After bleaching, remember to rinse the product well and apply a moisturizer and soothing cream to relieve the skin. Also be careful to space the discolorations well so as not to damage your skin.
