The width and height of the tree are the same. This makes it look like a green ball. The plant is not only beautiful, but also does not require careful maintenance.
The plant has a dense and voluminous spherical shape. Its size does not exceed 2 m. The dense branches grow short and flexible. Many resinous buds are located at a distance of 1 cm from each other. The needles are grouped in pairs in bundles. Their maximum length is 5 cm. The needles have a rich and deep emerald color. The developed root system is located close to the surface.
The aesthetic properties of pine allow it to be used in landscape design. The dense openwork crown attracts attention and becomes the central element of the garden plot. The “Pug” variety can be grown:
- as a single landing;
- in complex compositions;
- in a coniferous or combined mixborder;
- in the alpine slides;
- in rocky gardens.
The pine tree has a slow growth rate. This facilitates the maintenance of garden plantations of the “Pug” variety. They do not require regular correction and can remain in their original form for a long time.
The tree adapts well to any growing conditions. For him, the fertility of the soil is not important. The acidity can be either high or low. When choosing a soil for planting, preference should be given to the soil:
- sandy and sandy loam;
- moderately dry or wet;
- well drained;
- containing clay and sand.
The Pug pine is the most unpretentious among the mountain pines. She is less dependent on sunlight. Can grow in partial shade. Caring for it involves timely pruning. It doesn’t have to be produced every year. Sanitary pruning can be done as needed. For molding pruning, early spring is considered the best period, when sap flow is slower. The gain should be shortened by no more than 1/3. Young shoots are pinched. This allows you to increase the splendor of the needles. The stability of the tree allows it to carry:
- drought – dense litter helps to retain moisture for a long time;
- wind and snowfall – strong and flexible branches are not damaged by weather factors;
- frosts – frost resistance allows you not to cover the pines for the winter.
Young plants are less resistant. They are prone to sunburn, so in winter they need to be covered with burlap.
Pines are easy to care for. They tolerate any climate change and do not succumb to pest attacks.
