The child’s father kidnapped him when he was not even two years old. The boy grew up without a mother.
You will not wish anyone to survive this. To know that your child is learning to read, to ride a bike, to go to school, to grow up and mature, but all this is somewhere far away. It is impossible to imagine the feelings of the mother, who was deprived of the opportunity to take the baby to the kindergarten, to hold the hand when he is ill, to rejoice at his success and worry when he passes the exams. Lynette Mann-Lewis had to live with these feelings for half her life. For more than thirty years she was looking for her son.
Lynette divorced the child’s father when the boy was just under two years old. According to the court, the baby stayed with his mother. But dad didn’t give up. He kidnapped the child and took him to another country. They lived by forged documents. The man told the boy that his mother was dead. Little Jerry believed. Of course I did, because this is his dad.
All this time the police were looking for the boy. But I was looking for it in another country, in Canada, where he lived with his mother. Thousands of posted ads, calls for help – all were in vain.
Mother and son met only by luck. Lynette’s ex-husband was arrested for using forged documents. For more than 30 years, the papers have not raised any questions. But the man decided to apply for participation in the state housing program. He also needed a birth certificate for his son. Officials checked documents much more thoroughly than police or social services. They instantly identified a fake. The man was arrested, now he is awaiting trial on charges of two countries at once: forgery and kidnapping.
“Your son is alive, he was found,” the bell rang in Lynette’s apartment.
“Words cannot explain what I felt then. The hours before my first meeting with my son in 30 years was the longest in my life, ”Lynette told BBC.
Her boy at that time was 33 years old. Mom missed all the most important events in his life. And he did not even think that he would ever see her.
“You should never give up. All these years I suffered, but I believed that anything is possible, that we will see each other someday, ”said Lynette.
