There is a deficit of nurses in the entire province of Lublin. This is because more and more of them are retiring. At the end of last year, 300 people did it in Lublin. Due to the fact that the nurses work in several places at once, it is possible to fill such a number of shifts. The cardiology and orthopedic ward at the Chełm hospital urgently needs as many as 40 nurses. They are also necessary there in the operating theater.
According to daily newspaper journalists: – In the coming year – two, a large part of our nurses will retire and we will have a big problem with the staffing of duty hours. We have already taken action and started recruitment – says Michał Jedliński, acting director of the hospital in Chełm. – We are looking for both graduates and nurses with experience – he adds.
To encourage nurses to take up work, the hospital offers an employment contract as well as training. When it comes to earnings, it will be agreed individually with a given person.
It is not only the hospital in Chełm that suffers from a lack of nurses. A similar situation also emerged in the hospital in Kraśnik, especially in the internal medicine and cardiology departments.
– Many of them are retiring. Some, however, go back to work. If it were not for this, I think that not only our hospital, but also others, would have a serious problem – admits Marek Kos, director of SPZOZ in Kraśnik, in an interview with Dziennikwschodni.pl.
The hospital in Chełm and Kraśnik may be joined by the facility in Bełżyce, which may soon also be staffed.
According to Maria Olszak-Winiarska, chairman of the Lublin Region Board of the National Trade Union of Nurses and Midwives, there is no hospital where there would be no such problem. Individual departments function only because nurses work in several places at once. The salary they receive is so low that they prefer to go abroad or to other parts of Poland, where they may earn a little more.
