Methods for dealing with the moth on apple trees
The fruit moth is a pest that can pretty much ruffle the fruits of apple trees, pears and plums. These caterpillars are ready to completely leave you without a crop or significantly reduce its amount. Preventing intruders can protect the crop.
Preventive methods of dealing with the moth
Butterflies of this insect are nocturnal. Each individual can lay up to 120 eggs. In one summer, 2 generations of this pest can appear. Each representative of this species in the worm stage can destroy up to 3 fruits. Insects feel comfortable in winter under the bark of plants, in fallen foliage and underground at a shallow depth.
Prevention of the appearance of these insects has a good effect. The methods of action are as follows:
- In the fall, digging of the trunk circle is necessary. This will allow the insect cocoons to be pulled to the surface, where frost will destroy them.
- Plant debris should be removed from under the trees: there may be pests.
- In spring and autumn, it is necessary to view the bark of trees, remove and burn the old one, under which the larvae are hiding.
- Fallen fruits should not be left under the trees.
- Feeders and bird houses can be hung on tree branches.
- It is worth planting tomatoes, mustard and dill next to the fruit tree. Their smell scares away butterflies.
- In the summertime, you can cover the trees with trapping belts. These are tapes on which insects get stuck.
- You can catch butterflies by placing a bright lamp next to fly tape at night.
These measures will help to significantly reduce the number of fruit pests. To store apples, you need to line a solid container with corrugated paper. After the caterpillars appear on the paper, you need to burn it and pour boiling water over the box.
How to deal with the moth with folk remedies and insecticides
To combat this scourge, folk methods have long existed. Trees are sprayed with broths of burdock, tobacco, tansy, tomatoes, red pepper. You need to spray the first time during flowering and twice at two-week intervals.
Chemicals are used when the tree is heavily infested. Usually they use “Iskra-M”, “Fufanon”, “Ditox” and others. Processing should be carried out:
- after the departure of butterflies;
- 2 times with an interval of 2 weeks;
- after harvest.
These drugs kill caterpillars, but there are also drugs that affect the development cycle of the larvae. They interfere with the reproduction of insects and prevent them from moving from one stage to another. These drugs include “Dimilin” and “Match”.
To exterminate pests in the garden, it is necessary to approach the problem in a comprehensive manner. The safest method of struggle is prevention. If that doesn’t work, choose the least toxic product.
