Menorrhagia – Our doctor’s opinion
As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Catherine Solano, family doctor, gives you her opinion on the menorrhagia :
Menorrhagia are most often a minor phenomenon, very common in young women and women in premenopause. However, they can occur in women of all ages, from time to time. The unusual bleeding that occurs between two periods of menstruation (metrorrhagia, “spotting”) is also most often mild in young women. They are very common when using hormonal contraception. Pelvic examination “as a preventive measure” is of no interest in healthy women who do not have a cycle disorder. Before 2 years, in a woman who is well and who has menstruation without problem, screening for sexually transmitted infections should be systematic (screening for chlamidia and gonococci).
