Medinilla: plant care. Video
Features of growing medinilla at home
After purchasing, transfer it from a plastic container to a ceramic pot. Medinilla has a small number of roots, and they are located in the top layer of the soil. It will be correct if for transplanting this plant you choose shallow ceramic dishes, on the bottom of which you lay a layer of drainage.
The plant prefers light, breathable soil. Purchase a special potting soil mix for growing epiphytes from the store, or prepare it yourself by mixing coarse peat, leafy soil, and sphagnum moss in equal proportions.
An exotic flower does not like direct sunlight, at the same time it is very sensitive to a lack of light. When grown on a northern or western windowsill, there is a danger of the roots cooling down, after which the plant dies. Place the plant pot in a south-facing room at the back of the room. Provide medinilla illumination in the evening.
Medinilla is very sensitive to soil and air moisture. Water the plant daily with water at room temperature, avoiding overflow. During the period when medinilla is resting from flowering, arrange a warm shower for the plant, covering the soil with cellophane. Spray medinilla leaves regularly with a spray bottle, while protecting the buds and flowers of the plant from water.
