Medical treatments for scabs

During erythematous phase, the treatment of scabs requires creams based on corticosteroids.

When the clear phase is initiated, the treatment based on moisturizers is only effective if the affected person can regain their natural skin color through exposure to the sun.

Anglo-Saxons readily use Tacrolimus during both phases5 (Protopic®) or du Pimécrolimus6  (Elidel®), which do not have a marketing authorization to treat scabs in France and Canada unless they are part of atopic dermatitis with the presence of eczema. Calcitriol (Silkis®) was recently the subject of a study showing equivalent efficacy to Tacrolimus (Protopic®)7 but other studies need to be carried out in order to confirm this effect.
