Masterpieces of Italian design in St. Petersburg

From November 16, 2008 to February 28, 2009, an exhibition “100 items of Italian design” will be held in St. Petersburg – for the first time in Russia, you will be able to see all the cult furniture of Italy.

How often, when using this or that thing, do you think by whom and when it was created? Meanwhile, there is a person behind every object, there is a story, and much that is relevant now was invented back in the 60s and 70s. Loft Project Floors” with Milan Design Museum “Triennale” lifts the veil of the mystery of 100 great pieces of Italian design from the post-war period to the present day.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see objects by Gaetano Pesce, Enzo Mari, Joe Colombo, Mario Bellini, Alessandro Mendini and many others.

The exposition presents the most iconic and characteristic items-emblems of Italy of the XX – XXI centuries. For example, the Tolomeo lamp at one time stood on every Italian table, it is likely that Carlo Ponti signed not a single contract under its light, and Sophia Loren answered letters from fans. The legendary Vespa scooter, the most famous moped in the history of motor mechanics, needs no introduction. After the war, the Italian aircraft factory Piaggio, in order not to burn out completely, was forced to switch first to the production of pots, and later motor scooters. A symbol of the post-war period, the Vespa became incredibly popular in the late 1950s. After Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck blithely sailed on a Vespa on Roman Vacation in 1953, many wanted to repeat it.
