Medicinal lovage, much more often used as a fragrant seasoning for dishes, also has medicinal properties known in ancient times. Then it was recommended to improve digestion, but gradually the range of its use in traditional medicine has expanded even more.

The composition of lovage and its effects on health

Ascorbic acid comes out on top in terms of the amount of lovage herb, but this is not its only useful component. It also contains a small amount of carotene and quite a lot of routine. This substance strengthens the walls of blood vessels and is present precisely in leafy greens, therefore its use in cooking is only welcome. Lovage seeds are a source of essential substances that have tonic properties.

Rhizomes are mainly used for treatment in traditional medicine recipes, although there are also uses for seeds and leaves.

Treatment by taking a decoction of lovage roots inside

The decoction of the roots has diuretic properties, therefore it is used for chronic diseases of the kidneys, as well as the urinary tract. Alcohol tincture of the root has similar properties, but here you should carefully monitor the individual reactions of the body, since when combined with alcohol, lovage can cause a deterioration in general well-being. To obtain a decoction of the roots, it is necessary to brew a tablespoon of crushed raw materials with 3 cups of boiling water and stand in a water bath for half an hour. After insisting and cooling, the resulting mixture must be filtered and drunk 15 g three times a day before meals.

The use of a dump of medicinal lovage externally

Also, a decoction of the roots of this plant is also used externally, using as compresses and lotions for purulent wounds. The anti-inflammatory properties of the plant are actively used in cosmetology to treat inflammation on the skin. To do this, it is enough to wipe your face twice a day with a tampon moistened with decoction or tincture of lovage. To combat dandruff, the broth is rubbed into the hair roots twice a week for half an hour before washing.

How to make raw root tincture

To obtain a medicinal tincture, a part of the raw material is purified and finely crushed. This can be done on a grater or with a meat grinder. The resulting mixture is poured with three parts of medical alcohol and infused for a couple of weeks in a dark place.

Dishes for this must be clean and glass.

They use the tincture to strengthen the immune system and tone the body three times a day, diluting a tablespoon with a little water and dividing the received dose into three doses. Also, this composition has a strong diuretic effect.
