Lawyer’s Day 2022: history and traditions
Lawyer’s Day existed in pre-revolutionary times, but in modern Our Country this holiday appeared not so long ago. Let’s talk about its history and traditions

Jurisprudence, as you know, is an ancient science, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that such a holiday as Lawyer’s Day existed in pre-revolutionary Our Country. It was always celebrated on December 3rd. The fact is that it was on this day in 1864 that the judicial charters were adopted, which became the basis of the entire judicial reform of Alexander II, which completely changed the judicial system in the country.

When is Lawyer’s Day in 2022?

In 2022, Lawyer’s Day also falls on 3 December. On this day, the society will honor all those who are related to jurisprudence.

By the way, in modern Our Country, the holiday is officially considered young at the official level. The fact is that after 1917, this celebration was forgotten for the next almost 100 years: only in 2008, the lawyers decided to return their day.

History

More specifically, in February 2008. It was then that the head of our state, and he was Vladimir Putin at that time, put his signature on the decree, which spoke about the establishment of the Lawyer’s Day. Since then, jurists have had their own day of the year: their professional holiday began to officially exist. Prior to this, there was no provision for a single celebration in honor of all the “varieties” of lawyers.

The idea of establishing a Lawyer’s Day was born in the Moscow Regional Duma, whose members immediately hurried to share their thoughts on this matter with the then newly formed Association of Lawyers.

And in January 2008, the II congress of this public organization was held, at which Dmitry Medvedev, who at that time held the post of first deputy head of the cabinet of ministers, supported the allocation of a separate day for jurists.

Traditions

Thus, over the past ten years, all lawyers have received congratulations with best wishes every December 3rd. Moreover, warm words addressed to the heroes of the occasion are heard not only from their relatives, relatives and colleagues, the country’s top leadership also sends them official congratulations.

In addition, certificates of honor and various awards are awarded to the best of the best. For example, since 2009, on December 3, the Lawyer of the Year award, which is considered the highest award in the legal field, has been awarded annually. This award is given only to those who managed to leave their mark on legal science, and also put a lot of effort into creating a rule of law state. By the way, the very first “Lawyer of the Year” was Sergei Alekseev, who is one of the direct authors of the text of our Constitution.
