If we talk about beer, those fermented and later aged in barrels are the best sample that over time also improve.

The innovative character and its marked excellence in production perfectly define the North American craft of Founders Brewing.

One of their product categories is what they call “Barrel Aged” a series of excellent beers that focus on careful production, resting in barrels to develop special nuances that delight the most demanding palates in this new trend that is all the rage among beer lovers and consumers.

Quality and creativity are part of Founders DNA, which together with the authentic flavor of its products have elevated the American brand to some of the most prestigious awards in the American craft sector and the rest of the world.

In our country, Founders Brewing has recently received the Award for Best Brewer of the Year at the Barcelona Beer Challenge, the most important craft beer competition with a professional jury in Spain.

Founders Brewing From its brewing plant in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the incomparable setting of the Great Lakes, it began aging beers in barrels almost 15 years ago, since 2003, when it decided to provide breakfast with an important, excellent product with character as is the iconic Breakfast Stout.

Doses of bourbon lodged in the cracks in the wood of the barrels that once preserved the rich distillate, which add smell, flavor and texture to the beer, which sleep and are kept 30 meters underground in some old mines in the area.

From the hand of Cervecera Independiente, 3 of the products of its series have been presented to the general public “Barrel Aged” in an event that takes place once a year.

The VP of Founders Brewing’s international business, Brian May, was present at the event, supporting the beginning of the commercialization of its ranges of aged products as if they were vintages, thus strengthening the value of the brand within our borders.

Some exclusive products that are produced in limited series and with few units.

  • Frootwood, It is the novelty of this year and it is a Cherry Ale with 8% alcohol. A craft beer with a velvety texture with fruity hints of cherry flavor and vanilla traces from its aging in bourbon oak barrels and maple syrup.
  • KBS the mythical Kentucky Breakfast Stout, is an Imprerial Stout with 11,8% alcohol and made with large amounts of coffee and chocolate. In its process, the product is aged for a whole year in bourbon oak barrels. In the last edition of the Barcelona Beer Challenge, the KBS won the silver medal in its category.
  • Backwoods Bastard it’s a Scotch Ale of 11,2% alcohol. It is aged in oak wood and is a vivid reproduction of a glass of any Scottish malt with a whiskey and caramel aroma. A true pleasure for all the senses.
