Is it true that milk is healthier than yogurt: a doctor’s opinion

The nutritionist explained the advantages and disadvantages of each product.

Dairy products, despite all their seemingly obvious usefulness, still cause a lot of controversy: who can and who does not need them, and will it turn out that milk is more harmful than good. On the one hand, there is a lot of calcium, protein, and other useful substances in cottage cheese, yoghurts and cheese, which certainly speaks in their favor. However, different dairy products have some characteristics to consider.

Yogurt is based on milk and lactic acid bacteria. They normalize digestion and help defeat dysbiosis. Also, these bacteria contribute to the restoration of intestinal microflora after taking antibiotics. Thanks to them, immunity increases and the risk of inflammation of internal organs decreases.

Yogurt does not cause allergic reactions, unlike milk (a clear sign of milk allergy – skin inflammation, irritable bowel, bloating, vomiting, colic, etc.). True, now many manufacturers add various flavor enhancers and preservatives to fermented milk products. If the packaging indicates that yogurt can be consumed within a month, then it is absolutely useless. Therefore, choose foods with a short shelf life.

Milk is also a healthy product. But it doesn’t suit everyone.

“Milk contains useful components, especially fresh milk. It neutralizes radiation and other toxic substances. Therefore, workers in hazardous industries are advised to use it, ”explains the nutritionist.

To increase the shelf life of milk, it is pasteurized at high temperatures, then sharply cooled. As a result, the consumer receives a product saturated only with carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Moreover, it does not contain bacteria that help to assimilate lactose. Indeed, with age, an intolerance to this substance develops due to a lack of its enzymes in the stomach. Therefore, older people are recommended to drink fermented milk drinks.

However, trying to diagnose yourself with lactase deficiency is not worth it. This can only be determined by a doctor who will certainly recommend passing the appropriate tests.

“To make sure that milk is right for you, get tested (fasting blood) for lactose intolerance. For this you need to prepare. Avoid alcohol, exercise and medication per day. Refrain from smoking and drinking, except water, ”recommends Maria Volynkina.

By the way

It turns out that each country has its own views on dairy products. For example, sour cream, cottage cheese and kefir are purely Russian inventions. Abroad, cottage cheese is considered a kind of homemade cheese, like sour cream. And they do not trust kefir there. What other Russian products are a novelty abroad – read here.
