Are there any risks with a flea bite? Should I see a doctor with bite marks? Are there preparations that can soften the bite site? Can you relieve itching with home remedies? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka
Can flea bites be dangerous?
Good morning, I wanted to get information regarding flea bites. I took in a homeless dog, despite the fact that he was bathed, I noticed that he had fleas. The dog is sleeping with me and I’m afraid I was bitten, is it possible? Is a flea bite dangerous? I read and heard that a flea bite can cause skin inflammation is it true I have marks on my back and hands, these are red raised spots around which a pink and in some places red ring has formed, the bite site is also slightly swollen.
Should I see a doctor? Are there any drugs at the pharmacy that I can use to lubricate these bites? I’m worried there may be an infection. I know, of course, that I cannot scratch these changes so as not to deepen the wound, but the itching is getting worse and I have nothing at home to alleviate this condition. I also have a second question, how much do they persist flea bite marks? I am asking for an answer and instructions on what to do in case of a flea bite.
Your doctor advises you on how to deal with flea bites
It is very likely that you were bitten by fleas. The main symptom is very itchy lesions that have formed after the bite, and the skin around it is red, tender and sore, there may also be a rash or hives around the bite. First of all, do not scratch the itchy skin, they are the gateway to infection, and we can carry many pathogens on our hands, which may result in bacterial infection of the lesion.
In humans, fleas do not transmit serious diseases, but there is a risk of superinfection of the wound, especially if we scratch the lesions intensively. The wound may then become more painful, reddened, more warm, and may even leak pus. It can also occur Allergic reaction from the occurrence of hives to difficulty breathing, shortness of breath.
If your dog has fleas, it is also worth going to the vet for his health – he will order measures that will allow the dog to get rid of fleas. If you do not react quickly enough, it may turn out that fleas live not only in your dog, but also in your bedding, curtains, and carpets at home.
There is no specific treatment for humans to target fleas, it will heal the bites over time. This time varies from person to person. However, it is worth using over-the-counter antihistamine medications or creams – they will help you deal with troublesome itching and prevent scratching, and thus – secondary bacterial infection.
The most important thing is to get rid of fleas from the house and clean the apartment with a powerful vacuum cleaner, wash or disinfect carpets, bedding, curtains. Bed linen and clothes should be washed at the highest possible temperature. Also dry at very high temperatures. For disinfection, use strong chemicals that are directed against fleas. If you notice any fleas, the entire process should be repeated and the dog’s bedding should be washed every few days. Ask your Veterinarian during the visit to follow up carefully to decontaminate your home.
