In the mountains: total protection of children

Holidays in the mountains in summer or winter, we protect ourselves!

We protect our face from the sun

The sun is beating down in the mountains. UV rays (dangerous for health) increase by 10% every 1 meters. At 000 meters altitude, we therefore receive 2% more UV. However, as at the same time, the temperature drops, we are less aware of the risk. In addition, in the mountains, snow reflects 000 to 20% UV, against 80% for sand and 90% for water … If in December and January, the risks are lower, know that from February, the UV level becomes very strong and that in March / April, it is as if you were in Guadeloupe, in the plains and in the middle of summer! Sun protection is therefore essential. Use a cream with an index of at least 30, or even 50, and repeat the application every two hours. For your children, be extra vigilant, take creams with extreme protection.

We protect our eyes from the sun

It’s not just summer and the sea that you need to protect yourself from the sun’s rays! They are also burning in the mountains. The reverberation of the light is even stronger there. So, to avoid being dazzled and more serious to have snow ophthalmia (inflammation of the cornea), don’t forget to wear sunglasses. But be careful not just any! For effective protection, choose good quality lenses that filter UV A and B. Note that price is not a guarantee of quality. The important thing is that they are CE certified. There are 4 categories of CE protection: from 0 to 4. The ideal is to choose category 4 (extreme conditions such as high mountains). Also prefer wraparound glasses so that the sun cannot pass on the sides (the mask shape for example). It goes without saying that your children should also wear it because their eyes are even more sensitive than those of adults. Know that from the age of 3 months, they can wear it.

Protect your skin from the cold

During ski holidays, the skin is strained : cold, wind … And just because you may be skipping makeup, doesn’t mean you have to skip the hydration step! At the risk of ending up with reddened and torn skin… So morning and evening, use protective emulsions. Attention, this advice is intended for the whole family: husband, children, everyone must go through the hydration box! Prefer a nourishing treatment that is more full-bodied than the one you usually apply. A cold-cream type cream will do just fine. They have the specificity of being extra nutritious and having a barrier effect against the cold. However, they are very oily so if that does not suit you, you can opt for a slightly lighter but still very protective treatment.

We protect our lips from the cold

You won’t have to leave it, even when you hit the slopes! Who ? Your lip balm of course! The low temperatures and the wind do not give them a gift indeed. Result: chapping and cracks are often present. So, so that they are all soft: first, do not wet your lips and deusio use a protective stick. Repeat the application as soon as you feel the need and don’t forget your children’s lips, which are also very fragile!
