PSYchology

They are able to slow us down, interfering with the movement towards the goal. Often we are not aware of them. These blocks are our old memories, events, beliefs or attitudes that we give ourselves, but which the body deciphers in its own way. Hypnotherapist Laura Cheadle explains how to free yourself from this useless burden.

Blocks woven from old ideas, beliefs or impressions can have an impact on life. Often they undermine all efforts, and we do not understand what is happening to us. Before we understand how to get rid of these «weights», let’s understand what they are.

An unconscious block is a hidden part of the psyche that prevents us from achieving our goals or doing what we would like to do.

If you are unable to achieve your goals, even though you are making an effort, these blocks may be preventing you. Has it ever happened that you firmly decided to quit something, and then for some reason started doing it again? Or, on the contrary, were you going to start something (for example, lead a healthier lifestyle), but never did it?

Why are some blocks hidden in the subconscious

Important and significant memories are stored at the conscious level, because we want to remember them, and everything that seems not very important remains in the depths of consciousness.

Most blocks are not repressed memories, as is commonly believed. Most often, these are events that do not seem significant enough to the brain to raise them to a conscious level. Something that we once saw, heard or felt, accepted and never consciously thought about.

How to recognize these blocks?

You can realize them by asking yourself: what benefit do we get by continuing to behave in the old way, even when we want to change something? What scares us what we seem to be striving for? If you find that the answer is unconvincing, you probably hit a block.

Try to determine where you have these beliefs, imagine that you have managed to achieve the goal. By mentally going through the process of change before you start to change anything in reality, you can anticipate possible difficulties and prepare for them in advance.

The story of a man who was able to identify and eliminate his block

I work a lot with women who want to lose weight. One client knew exactly what exercise and what diet she needed. She was smart, she had all the opportunities and support of loved ones, but she could not lose weight.

With the help of hypnosis, we were able to find out that the block that interfered with her came from childhood. It is connected with the fact that her mother left her, who left for another man and moved to another state. This woman never saw her mother again and despised her for her frivolity and irresponsibility. She was raised by her stepfather. Already in adulthood, she worked hard on herself in order to overcome the problems associated with the fact that she was abandoned.

She tried to imagine herself light, but lightness was associated with frivolity and irresponsibility.

Her stepfather had always told her how important it was to be as hard as a rock, and she was accustomed to presenting herself as a huge, solid, motionless mass. On a conscious level, she understood that he was teaching her responsibility and stability so that she would not run away from her duties like her mother. Her mother’s act deeply hurt her, and she decided that she would never do the same, that she would be solid as a rock. But unconsciously her brain said, this means you have to be heavy.

We were both impressed by how literally her mind took her stepfather’s instructions. Breaking the block required work. She tried to imagine herself light, but lightness was associated with frivolity and irresponsibility — it seemed to her that the wind would blow her away, and in the end nothing worked.

In the end, we decided that she could imagine herself to be dense and hard, like lead, so she could be both strong and thin at the same time. As soon as we found this visual image of metal that satisfied both of her internal needs, my client began to lose weight and no longer gained excess weight.
