To be able to use fresh cucumbers for food in winter, you can use proven storage methods.
- You will need clay dishes. Small cucumbers are placed in it, which must be sprinkled with dried river sand. Then the vessel must be tightly closed and buried in the cellar.
- Zelentsy should be washed and cut into circles. Lay in layers in clean jars, sprinkle each with salt. You don’t need to add too much salt. Only the very first and last layers should be dense. The jars are sealed with plastic lids and stored in a cold cellar. If necessary, the cucumbers must be removed and soaked briefly in cold water.
- Fill any container with freshly picked cucumbers with sharp tips from top to bottom and fill with ice water. The height of the water layer is 3-9 cm. The water must be changed very often. With this storage method, vegetables remain fresh for about a month.
- When planting, place beds of cabbage and cucumbers nearby. When twisting the fork between its leaves, you need to place the tied cucumber. The cabbage, continuing to twist the forks, will “pack” the cucumber. When the fork is ready, it must be lowered into the basement. Get the cucumbers as needed.
- Cucumbers need to be washed with boiled water and dried with paper towels. Separate the white from the egg. Beat the protein a little and coat each fruit with it. The film formed after this procedure protects against moisture loss, but allows “breathing”. Greens processed in this way can be stored in a cool place where the sun’s rays do not penetrate.
- Non-standard storage is practiced in some villages. A wooden barrel is filled with freshly picked greens. With the arrival of autumn, the barrel is lowered to the bottom of a local non-freezing reservoir (if any) with a bottom current. Cucumbers can be removed and lowered again: they remain fresh until spring.
