How to sew the lace on tulle correctly: tips

Not everyone has the opportunity to contact the studio, where they can sew a braid on a newly purchased tulle for a decent amount. Therefore, many women who have a sewing machine at home are interested in how to properly sew the braid on the tulle.

How to sew the braid on tulle correctly: tips from the masters

The most popular type of tape is regular tape, which creates even folds in a 1 to 2 ratio. Other types of tape have a different sequence of folds, usually more elegant and intricate. There are transparent and opaque tapes on sale. The former are used for stitching on transparent weightless tulle curtains, the latter for thick curtains.

Width varies from 25 to 100 mm. The most used option is from 25 to 60 mm. A narrow tape is sewn only if the usual fastening is in the first place without creating any folds.

The braid reduces the width of the tulle several times, so it is important to correctly calculate the consumption of the ribbon and tulle. It is necessary to measure the width of the cornice and find out the coefficient of assembly of the braid directly upon purchase. The width of the cornice is multiplied by the coefficient of the braid. The resulting value is the length of the braid.

If the cornice is 2 m wide (large window), then you will have to buy 4 m of braid, adding a couple of extra centimeters to this value, just in case.

Before you sew the braid on the tulle, you need to set up the sewing machine, especially if no one has sewed anything on it for a long time. After adjusting all the settings, you need to test the operation of the machine on a small piece of cloth. The stitching should be straight and crisp, and the upper and lower threads should not be visibly intertwined.

Then they act according to the following algorithm:

  • trim the edges of the curtains. If you skip this stage, at the end of the work a terrible disappointment awaits: the tulle can hang crooked;
  • make a 2 cm hem (iron it);
  • tuck a small piece of tape inward and secure with a pin;
  • sew the top line so that the tape does not stick out from behind the curtain. The tape should be 3 mm below the edge of the shade. The line is made at a distance of 4-5 mm from the edge of the tape;
  • split the tulle with the ribbon with pins in 45 cm increments so that the direction of the seam is visible;
  • sew the bottom stitching, being careful not to allow the fabric to shrink. Each section of the tulle, along with the ribbon, must be carefully pulled and fixed with a stitch.

Then the ribbon is cut and the tulle is pulled together. The ends of the ropes are hidden in a special bag.
