How to set up a child to study after the holidays
The summer ended as abruptly as it had begun. In this regard, we have to solve urgent problems. How to set up a child to study after the holidays? And what can we do to make sure that his return to school does not turn into a test for the whole family?
On a low start
Ideally, you should start preparing for school days a couple of weeks before the first bell rings. First of all, you need to establish a proper daily routine. Make sure that the child goes to bed no later than 22 hours. It is estimated that to wake up happy and full of energy, a student needs 9-10 hours of serene sleep. This has the best effect on the brain and its willingness to absorb new knowledge.
Do not forget that children are in a relaxed state after the holidays and they need time to adapt. Walking in the fresh air is very useful in this regard — it calms the nervous system and helps to restore strength. For restless fidgets, they are doubly useful, especially before going to bed. But the morning should start with light gymnastics. The sooner you get into this habit, the better. Make a heroic effort and inspire them with your own example. Joint exercises, at least in the first days of school, will benefit everyone.
Psychologists advise parents to put the workplace in order together with the child: to free up space in the bookcase for textbooks, to adjust the height of the chair, to set the light correctly. It does not hurt to buy beautiful notebooks and pens together, or a new pencil case with your favorite characters. All these attributes will help you tune in to a positive mood. And on the Day of Knowledge, you can arrange a small holiday. For example, gather classmates for a friendly tea party or go to an amusement park with the whole family.
Learning in four hands
As practice shows, the first 7-10 days of study go to the swing. Crises in children happen later, when you have to really get involved in the process. To avoid them, you need to know how to prepare for school after the holidays.
The most important thing is to distribute the load evenly. It is not necessary to sit the child down for homework immediately after returning from school. A hearty healthy lunch and an hour’s rest are much more productive. By the way, be prepared for the fact that at first you will have to put aside your own affairs and do your lessons. Especially if we are talking about unfamiliar and frightening subjects, such as physics or chemistry. The child will be grateful if you help him write an essay or learn new expressions in a foreign language.
At the same time, it is important that the child does not sit over textbooks all the free time. Sports, dancing, and classes in creative sections will help you dilute your mental work. Just do not rush to enroll your child in them from September 1. It is better to wait a couple of weeks while he adapts to school activities. And do not overload the schedule beyond measure — this can cause serious stress.
Don’t forget to be a family psychologist from time to time. It often happens that even small failures and blunders in school are perceived by children as a disaster. Don’t shut out their problems, even if they seem ridiculous. It is better to ask the child what is bothering him, tell a story from his school life and cheer him up.
Food for the mind and not only
A healthy diet plays a fundamental role. The diet of children after the holidays should be more balanced and thoughtful than ever. Therefore, with the beginning of the school year, the family menu returns to the hearty school breakfasts and lunches that you can take with you.
In the morning, it is best to feed the children porridge: oatmeal, buckwheat or millet. These are slow carbs, which are primarily needed for shock training. They saturate and stimulate thought processes for a long time. And although a rare child enthusiastically rushes to an early breakfast, try to make sure that he eats a couple of spoonfuls of porridge. Add to it pieces of fruit, fresh berries, a spoonful of jam or honey — and the dish will become much more attractive.
When collecting a backpack, do not forget to put a dry ration in it. It can be a sandwich with ham and vegetables, natural yogurt, banana or granola bar. A bottle of water or sweet tea is also not superfluous. Lack of fluid quickly affects the well-being and causes a decline in strength. It is extremely important to feed the child with proteins. Therefore, white steamed meat, lean fish and eggs must be in the diet. Fresh kefir and cottage cheese, as well as pancakes, pancakes and casseroles based on them are also welcome.
Avid sweet tooth is better to transfer from chocolate bars, cakes and cookies to more healthy marmalade, marshmallows, marshmallows and dried fruits. As much as possible, make sure that the child is not tempted by chips and crackers at school. If he has this addiction, prepare chips from vegetables and fruits or give him a bag of nuts with you.
Remember, our emotional state is easily transmitted to children. So turn on your inner optimist and welcome the new school year with a smile!
