How to make roses from polymer clay with your own hands

We invite you to make a stunning boutonniere of delicate roses using the fashionable technique of polymer clay modeling with your own hands. A spectacular decoration is done in a matter of minutes and in a day it becomes a beautiful brooch or hairpin, which you present to your delighted friend on March 8.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We tear off a large piece of white polymer clay the size of an egg and a little bit of raspberry clay.

We crush both pieces in our hands until smooth – we get a piece of clay of a pale pink hue.

We will sculpt petals from it.

2. Making blanks for petals

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Divide the pink clay into nine identical pieces – these will be the petals of our rose.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Roll each piece into a ball, put it on the base of the palm and flatten the ball into a round petal with the thumb of the other hand – while using the thumb we describe a semicircle, forming the upper edge of the petal.

As a result, our petal will have a thin edge and a thick, dense base.

We make the remaining eight petals in the same way.

5. We start to collect the rosebud

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We take the first petal and roll it into a roll with our fingers – this will be the core of our rose.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Then we wrap the first petal with the second, and so on, until a half-open bud is obtained.

We put the petals so that the center of the next petal wraps around the joint of the edges of the previous one.

7. We make blanks for sepals

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Tear off five tiny pieces, the size of a pea, from a piece of green clay.

These will be our future sepals.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Roll each green pea between the palms into a thin sausage with a sharp tip.

The sepals are ready!

9. Beautiful sepals to the bud

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We sculpt the finished sepals to the base of the rose on all sides of the flower, bend the upper edges.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

In the same way we make two more roses.

Cut the finished roses by 1/3 of the height using scissors so that our boutonniere is more or less flat.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Take a small piece of green clay and place it in the base of a plastic mold for sculpting a leaf. Gently shape the clay into a leaf with two thumbs, kneading it along the shape.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We detach the resulting sheet from the form – streaks will be printed on it.

Thinning the edge of the sheet with our fingers to make it more believable.

We sculpt two more sheets of the same size.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We leave our three roses and three leaves to dry – products made of polymer self-hardening clay completely freeze in 24 hours without any additional conditions.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We fold the leaves in the shape of a triangle and glue them to each other with PVA glue.

(For greater strength, we recommend molding them together while still soft.)

Polymer clay modeling: master class

Glue three roses on the leaves in the center, close to each other.

We use the same PVA glue for this.

16. Glue the artificial twigs

Polymer clay modeling: master class

We decorate the joint between roses and leaves with small branches of artificial plants, also planting them on glue.

The boutonniere will gain volume.

On the back of the sheet we glue a hairpin or the base of the brooch.

Our boutonniere is ready!

It can be used as a hairpin, brooch or decoration for a dress or corset. Our boutonniere on a bracelet or belt will look spectacular.

Tips:

– white clay serves as a basis for obtaining various colors and shades. Mixing pieces of clay of other colors to white clay – you get pastel shades of varying degrees of intensity.

– an open package of clay can be stored at room temperature by closing the bag with a paper clip or sticking it with tape to protect the clay from air ingress and, consequently, from drying out.

Polymer clay modeling: master class

– polymer clay dries within 24 hours at room temperature.

– polymer clay is afraid of water, so protect products made of it from moisture (do not wear a hairpin in the rain).

– clay products are fragile enough, be careful.

– if you smeared petals or a leaf with PVA glue – do not rush to get upset, after drying, the PVA glue becomes transparent.
