Where does he come from
Bacteria are to blame for everything: they are excellent at poisoning our lives. A lot of tasty things for them accumulate in the pipes: in the sink – fat, food debris, in the bath – skin flakes. All this sticks to the walls of the sewer pipes and begins to rot, hence the smell.
It is not possible to prevent bacteria-nutrient residues from entering the sewer system. To minimize the consequences, there is a special design – a siphon – under the sink and under the bathtub. Or, as an option, a container where there is always water. Thanks to these devices, the smell does not pass into the room. And if he did appear, then you need to get under the sink or under the bath and look for the problem there. This could be:
the flask and pipe are clogged with dirt;
the curved corrugated pipe – the knee – has ceased to create the desired bend;
there is a drain in the sewer;
air has entered the riser.
Getting Rid of Trouble
Once you have found out the cause, you can start to eliminate it. This is usually easy, but honestly disgusting.
First remedy – flush the pipes. This can be done using a special anti-blockage agent or you can prepare it yourself. It’s very simple, but you need to be careful: wear gloves, and if so, safety glasses. We are safe, and then we can proceed: pour 60-70 grams of baking soda into the drain hole. Next, pour a glass of vinegar. At this point, hiss and even splashes should begin, for this case we need glasses. As soon as the hissing has stopped, open hot water and thoroughly rinse the sink.
If flushing does not save the situation, we try second method – rinse the knee. Here we need gloves and mental endurance: usually the smell from the siphon is not the most pleasant. We put a basin or a bucket under the knee, carefully unscrew the siphon, drain the water, wash out all the accumulated filth from the inside. It would also be good to remove the corrugated pipe and rinse, or even replace it with a new one. Then it remains to assemble the entire structure again and enjoy the freshness.
If, in this case, freshness has not come, then you will have to call a plumber.
