Winter finally remembered that she was winter. After freezing temperatures and slush, frost hit, it’s snowing. The beauty! In such weather, you want to walk and breathe clean frosty air. And so that a walk or a trip to work does not turn into a cold or hypothermia, you need to properly equip yourself. Clothes — space
- Header from wool and fur keeps heat well. But in severe frost, it is worth wearing a hood over it. By the way, there is an anecdote among the people: “If you want to find a wife, choose her in the winter: if she wears a hat, it means smart, without it, go by.”
- Scarf it is better to wear long and soft. Tightly fitting to the body, it will not allow heat to escape. In such a scarf it will be possible to hide the face – so as not to catch a cold in the respiratory tract.
- On hand – mittens, it would be nice if their top layer was waterproof. In mittens, fingers literally warm each other, so in cold weather they are preferable to gloves. The main condition is that the gloves must be in size. In close, blood flow is disturbed and hands freeze.
- Apparel must be multi-layered. The first layer is a soft, preferably cotton T-shirt, T-shirt. Then a loose turtleneck or shirt. Top sweater. Between each layer of clothing there will be warm air that will warm you outside. Keep in mind: tight clothing does not create a warm vacuum.
If possible, purchase thermal underwear. Density 200 gr. per square meter – at temperatures from 0 to -8 degrees, but the density is 150 gr. designed for +5 – 0. And the same thick fleece jacket. Thermal underwear provides warmth and wicks away sweat. Fleece lets moisture in, but retains heat. Its properties are comparable to a wool sweater.
Under trousers and jeans, it is also best to wear thermal underwear – observing the same principle of layering. But ordinary underpants, woolen pants are also suitable. For women – leggings or leggings, dense or fleeced.
- Jacket or coat should sit on the figure: under too loose outerwear (for example, a flared fur coat), a cold wind will blow. By the way, about down jackets. The warmest down is eiderdown, but such clothes are expensive. More often they sew more budget jackets and coats with goose or duck down. Synthetic insulation will also keep you warm. It is about one and a half times heavier than down jackets. But it is not afraid of moisture and dries quickly.
Girls, do not wear a short jacket in the cold! The hips should be closed, because, doctors warn, it is the genitourinary system and kidneys that are the most sensitive organs to frost.
- Footwear should not be back-to-back – buy with a margin so that you can pry off a woolen sock. A high sole is also important so that snow does not fall. The best option is boots like “Alaska”, high fur boots or felt boots.
High heels are best hidden in the closet for now. They do not give stability, and you have to stay in the cold longer until you get to the right place.
We bask in the street
Movement is the best “heater”. Due to the active work of the muscles, blood flow increases and heat is released. But do not overdo it – so as not to get out of strength quickly and not to sweat. That is, they will do: fast walking, stomp, pat, jump, sit down several times …
Breathing through your nose will help too. The lungs produce a large amount of heat, warm the blood, which quickly spreads heat throughout the body.

If the hands and feet are frozen
The first sign of frostbite is that the exposed area of the skin turns pale. You don’t need to rub it – try warming it with your breath first. Hurry home. Or go to the nearest warm room. Remove gloves, frozen shoes, socks, wrap your arms and legs in something warm.
What can not be done? Rubbed with snow, as this leads to microcracks in the skin. Take a hot bath after a frost, or rush to the bath – the vessels react to temperature changes, which means that there is a high risk of spasms.
Tea yes, alcohol no
From the cold, tea or another warm drink will warm well – the liquid normalizes body temperature and improves blood circulation. Adults can drink warm winter drinks: grog, mulled wine.
But in the cold it is better to warm up with sweet tea. Hot will give a temporary effect: blood is redistributed from the limbs to the stomach, and the arms and legs begin to freeze more. But sugar is converted into the necessary warming energy for the body.
You can’t drink alcohol in the cold either. It expands the vessels, which give off heat very quickly, and there is nowhere to replenish it. The result is even faster hypothermia.

In the cold season, before going out, eat more hearty – to stock up on energy. Load up on meat with pasta. Good chicken broth. It not only quickly warms, but also relieves inflammation. Cook lasagna more often: a hearty, hot, fragrant (do not spare spices) dish will perfectly restore strength. For breakfast, cereals are perfect – wheat, buckwheat, oatmeal. Add honey or ginger. But it is better to limit dairy products and citrus fruits, as they contain acids that have a cooling effect on the body. Treat yourself to dark chocolate.
