How to cut Kalanchoe at home
Kalanchoe is a fairly common plant, because almost all of its varieties are picky and do not require special conditions. But even the most unpretentious flower needs some care, including pruning. This is a simple procedure, but you should know exactly when and how to cut the Kalanchoe at home so as not to harm it.
The need and types of pruning Kalanchoe
During pruning, flower stalks or excess leaves are removed from the Kalanchoe. This allows the plant to be rounded. After all, a small bush looks more attractive than a long bare stem with chaotically located shoots. In addition, pruning helps to create favorable conditions for the flower – the juice accumulated inside the plant is directed to all the shoots and leaves, filling them. As a result, the Kalanchoe becomes more resistant to wilting and drying.
Cutting the Kalanchoe is not at all difficult.
There are three types of trimming:
- initial;
- preventive;
- after flowering.
Each of these types of bush formation has its own purpose and its own rules for conducting.
How to properly trim Kalanchoe
The initial pruning is done after the Kalanchoe has taken up and started to grow. To do this, one or two upper leaves should be cut off from each shoot of the plant. And then rearrange the pots with a flower in a slightly darkened place.
When new shoots with leaves begin to appear at the place of pinching, it will be necessary to carry out preventive pruning of the flower. This will have to be done constantly so that the bush has a neat shape. At the same time, pruning can be done immediately after the appearance of young leaves on the shoots, without waiting for them to grow up.
In winter, pruning is not advisable.
After flowering, Kalanchoe is cut off not only to remove excess leaves, but also to get rid of peduncles. They are cut at the very base every time after the plant has completely faded. This formation activates the emergence of new flower shoots. After removing the peduncles, it is necessary to provide the plant with a dormant period of three to five weeks. To do this, it is recommended to reduce watering and make sure that direct sunlight does not fall on the flower.
To trim the flower, you need to use a sharp clerical or table knife. Do not pick off the leaves with your hands – this can damage the plant. It is recommended to carry out the formation of a bush in the morning.
