A background (watermark) is a translucent background image that sits behind the text. It is used to indicate the status of a document (secret, draft, etc.) or to display a company logo. We’ll show you how to add watermarks to Word 2013 documents.
To insert a watermark, open a document and click on the tab Design (Design) on the Ribbon.
In section Page Background (Page background) click on the button Watermark (Substrate). The various built-in watermarks will be displayed. Click on the sample you like.
A watermark appears behind the text in the document.
If you decide that the watermark is no longer needed, or the status of the document changes, you can easily remove it. To do this, click on the button Watermark (Underlay) and select Remove watermark (Remove backing).
In addition, you can create custom watermarks from text or images. To do this, click on Watermark (Underlay) and select Custom Watermark (Customizable background).
A dialog box will appear on the screen. Printed watermark (Printed substrate). In custom watermarks, you can add text or a picture. To add a text watermark, select Text watermark (Text). Customize as you wish Language (Language), Font (Font), Size (Size) and Color (Color). Optionally, you can select the option Semitransparent (Translucent).
Specify how you want to position the background − Diagonal (diagonal) or Horizontal (Horizontally). Click OK.
The custom watermark is now included in the document.
If you want to use the picture as a watermark, click on Watermark (Watermark) tab Design (Design) and select again Custom Watermark (Customizable background). In the dialog box Printed Watermark (Printed backing) click on Picture (Figure), and then on Select Picture (Choose).
You can select an image from a folder on your computer, from Clip Art on Office.com, search for an image on Bing, or download from OneDrive. As an example, we found the Windows logo in Bing.
Select an image from the search results and click on Insertion (Insert).
Note: Make sure you agree to the restrictions on the use of the selected graphic.
To insert a picture as a translucent image behind the text, check the box washout (Discolor). You can also set the scale for the picture, or let Word scale it automatically by selecting Car (Auto). Click OKto place the underlay.
The image will be inserted into the document behind the text.
Team Watermark (Watermark) is also available in Word 2007 and 2010, but in those versions you will find it on the Page Layout (page markup), not Design (Design).
