How to cook barley in a slow cooker

You will need – barley, slow cooker

1. To cook barley in a slow cooker, you need to rinse it to clean water and soak it in cold water for 4 hours, or overnight in the refrigerator.

2. Drain the water, put the barley in a multicooker greased with butter.

3. Add three times more water than barley: for example, for 1 multi-glass of barley 3 multi-glasses of water or milk.

4. Set the multicooker to the “Buckwheat” mode, close the lid and cook from 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes, depending on the type of pearl barley; it is recommended after 50 minutes of boiling to taste the barley for readiness.

It is important to make sure that the pearl barley does not run away – in order to prevent this, it is necessary to load not too much pearl barley and water into the multicooker (maximum 3 glass of barley and 1 glasses of water in the 3-liter capacity of the multicooker).

5. Set the multicooker to the “heating” mode for 10 minutes to make the barley more fragrant; you can also add a piece of butter at this stage.

It is convenient to soak the pearl barley directly in the multicooker, while setting the multicooker timer for the soaking time. After this time, the pearl barley will begin to boil – this way you can control the soaking time with an accuracy of a second.

If the barley is prepared for the second, you can add meat, stew, vegetables right when cooking it, and cook a stew or pilaf with barley. For example, barley with stew is very tasty: just fry the chopped stew with vegetables, add the soaked groats and cook on Plov at an automatically set time.

You can cook barley in a multicooker and steam – it should be cooked in a container for rice. However, keep in mind that only pre-soaked pearl barley will be steamed.
