Proper oral hygiene is not only a guarantee of a Hollywood smile, but also health. It helps to avoid heart and lung diseases and chronic inflammations, but also allows for greater comfort in contact with others and self-satisfaction.

Scientific studies have shown that most of us do not remove build-up every day when we brush our teeth plaque and food scraps. This results in cavities in the teeth and gum disease. What can we do to remedy this at home?

Plaque must be removed daily

Washing to we remove plaquethe accumulation of which leads to the formation of tartar and causes inflammation. This colorless layer of microbes and carbohydrates is formed almost all the time in all of us. It is made of substances contained in saliva, in which bacteria live, producing acid that destroys enamel. This is the main the cause of carious lesions.

Meanwhile, the relationship between the condition of our teeth and general health is huge. Research has shown that tooth decay can increase the risk of heart, lung and pancreatic disease. In addition, the plaque that is not removed every day undergoes mineralization, transforming into tartar, which builds up and destroys the gums, teeth and bone. The better we remove plaque with daily brushing, the better the chances for healthy teeth and no caries.

We need to take care of our gums every day

The bacteria in plaque also produce toxins that cause gums to become inflamed. They then become red, swollen and may bleed. When the gums are sick, the entire body suffers, because pathogenic bacteria developing in them can pass through the blood to other organs.

In addition, inflammation causes the immune system to produce particles called cytokines that can damage all tissues. If left untreated, inflammation of the gums results in irreversible damage to the bones and fibers that hold the teeth in place.

The effectiveness of sonic technology

Both in the case of caries and gum disease, the right one plays an important role at the stage of prophylaxis and treatment oral hygiene. Which toothbrush you choose can determine your success in this area – or the lack of it. Among the available solutions, brushes using sonic technology deserve a special mention.

Not everyone sonic toothbrush but cleans the same. The differences lie primarily in the specificity of the technology itself and the results obtained. It is also important to make sure that the promised effects are confirmed by clinical trials.

The Philips Sonicare toothbrush deserves a recommendation, as it is the only sonic toothbrush approved by the Polish Dental Society. While brushing your teeth, the toothbrush emits sound waves, causing the bristles of the tip to vibrate at high frequency. The cleaning power of 62 strokes per minute gives the mixture of fluid (paste and saliva) a high speed, creating microbubbles which are then forced deeply into the interdental spaces and along the gumline by a wide range of bristle motion.

these the operation of the Philips Sonicare toothbrush provides up to 10x more plaque removal compared to a manual toothbrush and up to 7x healthier gums even after two weeks of regular use. The brush is gentle on the gums, safe for people with sensitive teeth and orthodontic appliances.

Brushing your teeth is an important and not easy task

We should start brushing lessons at the age of 2-3 years. The frequency is also important – we should brush our teeth every morning and evening, and if possible after every meal. Each time we should spend two minutes brushing, allocating the same amount of time to each quarter. At the same time, making sure that we do not press the brush too hard.

The choice of brushing method is also important. Usually, people who do not receive proper instructions brush their teeth transversely. These movements are not recommended, as there is a possibility of damaging the teeth and the gingival margin, as well as exposing the tooth roots. For adults, the sweeping technique is the recommended method of brushing. Then the brush is placed against the line of teeth and gums at an angle of 45 degrees, and then the so-called with its sweeping motion moves the bristles down from the gum. We should do a minimum of 10 repetitions with each tooth.

The sweeping method requires a lot of effort and it is hardly connected with comfort. For this reason, a good solution is the Philips Sonicare sonic toothbrush, which performs this movement for us – caring for the gums and teeth at the same time. In addition, the toothbrush offers a timer and a pressure sensor. The former will measure the two minutes recommended by dentists, and the latter will inform you when the pressure of the brush on the teeth and gums is too strong.
