How coffee will improve if you replace sugar with salt

Traditionally, sugar and milk are added to coffee to reduce the characteristic bitterness of the drink. But the peoples of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, much earlier than Europeans, learned about the tonic properties of the fruit of the coffee tree and realized that salt also copes with this task.

In addition, by adding salt instead of sugar to coffee, you get other benefits:

  • Salt allows you to maintain the required amount of moisture in the body. For residents of countries with hot climates, this problem is relevant, so they were the first to replace sugar in coffee with salt.
  • Unlike sugar, salt does not promote tooth decay.
  • A small pinch of salt softens the water and enhances the aroma and helps the coffee to develop to its fullest.

Basic Salt Coffee Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Freshly ground coffee – 2 tsp
  • Salt – pinch
  • Cold water – 150 ml.

1. Pour the ingredients into a heated Turk and fill it with water.

2. Cook the drink over low heat until foam starts to rise. Do not let it boil, remove the Turk from the heat for 20-30 seconds, then reheat until foam forms.

3. Repeat the process several times to achieve a rich taste, then pour into hot cups and serve immediately.

It is interesting to supplement coffee made according to this recipe with new ingredients, serve with dried fruits and dark chocolate. Experimenting with flavors and aromas will allow you to rediscover a familiar drink.

Bon appetit!
