A tall, strong plant with large, dark berries of an unusual shape – the edible honeysuckle “Bakchar Giant”. It takes root and bears fruit in any region of Russia, therefore it is popular with gardeners.

Description of the honeysuckle variety “Bakcharsky giant”

Edible honeysuckle growing in garden plots is high, up to 1,5-2 m in height, a plant with a strong trunk and spreading branches. The leaves have a characteristic shape and color: they are oblong, dull green with a bluish tinge, rather light.

Honeysuckle flowers “Bakcharsky giant” repeat the elongated shape of future fruits

It is no coincidence that the Bakcharsky Giant honeysuckle variety is called the record holder among fruiting shrubs. A good harvest can be removed from one tree: from 3 to 5 kg of sweet berries with a pleasant sourness. The fruits seem gigantic in comparison to the garden plum or thorn: each berry weighs about 2 g and reaches 5 cm in length. The plant is prized just for its delicious, sweet fruits, in which there are no seeds.

The honeysuckle of this variety has other advantages:

  • ripens already in June;
  • tolerates low, down to -50 ° C, temperatures;
  • does not shed flowers during sudden frosts, withstanding extreme temperatures down to –10 ° C;
  • rarely gets sick;
  • hibernates without special training.

A young bush will begin to bear fruit in the 3rd year after planting. The main thing is to take care of him correctly.

Planting and caring for honeysuckle

It is better to plant honeysuckle in early autumn, in early September. Look for a suitable place for her: sunny, open, but not blown by the winds. If there are several seedlings, leave at least 1,5 m between the holes: it is at this distance that the branches of an adult bush grow.

Honeysuckle replanting rules.

  1. Dig a hole ½ m deep and wide.
  2. Fill the drainage at the bottom of the hole.
  3. Pour mineral fertilizers into the ground for filling the hole, mix.
  4. Plant a seedling by filling the hole with soil.
  5. Water the plant abundantly with 10-15 liters of water.
  6. Sprinkle the soil under the canopy with mulch.

Taking care of the plant is easy. Water the bush abundantly during the period of active growth and fruiting. After the water is gone from irrigation, loosen and mulch the soil. At the end of April, apply nitrogen fertilizers, in June – phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, at the end of October, feed the plant with organic matter.

Honeysuckle variety “Bakcharskiy Giant” is an unpretentious plant that gives a bountiful harvest of delicious berries. The bush is highly frost-resistant, so it will take root in any garden area and quickly begin to bear fruit.
