hay fever
– an allergic disease caused by plant pollen. The disease is seasonal and occurs during the flowering period of plants, when the air contains a large amount of pollen.
The pollen of the ragweed weed has the most powerful allergenic properties. In the central regions of the European part of Russia these are meadow grasses: timothy, orchard grass, and meadow fescue.
Despite the fact that these herbs grow in rural areas, urban residents are most often affected. This is due to high air pollution in large industrialized cities (dust, chemicals that irritate the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract) and decreased immunity.
Symptoms of hay fever
Hay fever most often manifests itself as a runny nose, lacrimation, and itchy eyes.
Treatment of pollinosis
The main method of treatment is to reduce the body’s sensitivity to the allergen – hyposensitization. But before this, you must undergo skin tests to identify the specific allergen. If allergies are not prevented and treated in time, it can develop into a more serious disease such as bronchial asthma.
Prevention of pollinosis
During the flowering period, patients should protect themselves from pollen getting on the mucous membranes – wear a gauze bandage, special safety glasses, and take antihistamines under the supervision of a doctor. In severe cases, it is recommended to change your place of residence.
