Hair botox treatment: a solution for damaged hair?
Find the strong and shiny hair of his 20 years? This is the promise of hair botox, a keratin treatment that promises to give our hair a second youth. How does it work? For what types of hair? Our responses!
What is hair botox?
No needles or injections for this treatment whose name can be misleading! Hair botox is an ultra-nourishing professional treatment that aims to repair and restructure very damaged hair. In the absence of botox, this rejuvenating treatment contains keratin and hyaluronic acid.
Keratin is a natural protein that makes up 97% of the hair fiber and is responsible for its elasticity and impermeability. This keratin naturally present in the hair tends to diminish over time, and with external aggressions: brushing, coloring, stripping, UV rays, sea or swimming pool water, etc. The objective is then to regenerate this keratin using treatments that contain it.
Hyaluronic acid, for its part, is a molecule naturally present in the body with highly moisturizing properties. It is able to retain up to a thousand times its weight in water in the hair fiber, in order to restore suppleness, elasticity and shine.
By combining these two molecules, hair botox will give a real boost to damaged and dry hair for a real makeover.
For what types of hair?
While hair botox can be used on all types of hair, regardless of their color, length, thickness or texture, it is particularly suitable for damaged, tired or sensitized hair.
The best clients for hair botox are: frequently bleached, colored and / or permed hair, those regularly subjected to brushings or a straightening iron, very dry and sparkling hair, split ends.
A hair botox treatment can also be judiciously carried out before leaving for the sun: the hair is abused by ultraviolet rays, sea bathing, salt and chlorine – a real drying cocktail.
Performing hair botox
Hair botox is a professional treatment, which is carried out only in hairdressing salons or institutes.
Before starting the treatment, the hair is first washed with two care shampoos in order to remove dirt, but also to open their scales in order to prepare them for treatment.
Once the hair is towel-dried, the product based on keratin and hyaluronic acid is applied with a brush, strand by strand, without touching the root and over the entire length of the hair. Lengths and tips are then mixed for a perfect impregnation of the product, then the product is left to act for half an hour to an hour, so that it penetrates into the hair fiber.
The last step is to go under the heated helmet for about fifteen minutes, before drying the hair. The product is not intentionally rinsed out, since it must apply at least 24 hours on dry hair in order to act optimally. The client therefore comes out of the hairdresser with the leave-on botox treatment, but the product is invisible and the hair looks perfectly clean. The first shampoo will only be done the next day.
How to maintain it?
For its effect to last as long as possible, hair botox must be maintained with care. It is particularly advisable to use only sulfate-free shampoos, and to favor shampoos and masks enriched with keratin, or even hyaluronic acid to prolong the effect of the treatment. Hair botox lasts on average one month to a month and a half, or even up to two months if the above recommendations are followed.
What are the differences between hair botox and Brazilian straightening?
While both are formulated with keratin, the main objective of Brazilian straightening – as the name suggests – is to straighten the hair, in order to avoid the appearance of frizz or curls in wet weather. Hair botox is more effective than straightening in repairing damaged hair.
The first stages of the treatment are more or less the same for the two techniques, but a smoothing with heating plates is added for the Brazilian straightening. The smoothing effect is more durable since it can last on average 4 to 6 months, against 1 to 2 months for botox.
What is the price of hair botox?
The price of hair botox is quite variable depending on the salon, their location, but also the length of the hair to be treated. The longer the hair, the more products it requires and the higher the price.
The price of a hair botox treatment is generally between 80 euros and 150 euros.
