Flowers weeds: names

Weeds are wild plants trying to occupy arable land. Some weed flowers have a rather beautiful appearance and fit perfectly into flower beds, but they still have no place next to cultivated plants in the garden.

Why is it necessary to destroy flowers and weeds?

Weeds are much stronger than cultivated plants, they easily conquer new territories, grow intensively and multiply rapidly, which leads to a reduction in the area of food for garden crops and a decrease in yield.

Weed flowers are used to decorate city alleys and parks.

The harm that weeds bring:

  • absorb water and micronutrients from the soil;
  • reduce the illumination of garden crops and lead to their lodging;
  • contain toxic substances harmful to plants and humans;
  • are a food source for garden pests.

Most weeds are not completely useless. Among them there are honey plants and plants with healing properties. They are specially grown by gardeners and beekeepers, and some types of weeds during flowering can easily be mistaken for an ornamental plant.

Willow loosestrife is a perennial weed, thanks to its beautiful purple flowers in the XNUMXth century, it was officially ranked as an ornamental plant. In the last century, it was again transferred to the category of malicious pests. In some countries, the sale of its seeds is strictly prohibited.

Iris yellow – in appearance it is very similar to real iris. It tolerates drought well and is unpretentious to the soil. When buying iris seeds, make sure that there is no yellow iris in the planting material, otherwise the garden will quickly be occupied by this tenacious weed.

Weeds can serve as indicators of soil composition. Plantain, buttercup and horsetail prefer acidic soil, while chamomile, bells and mustard prefer alkaline soil.

Celandine is a tall and beautiful weed with yellow flowers that bloom at dawn and bloom until dark. Seed carriers are mainly ants. In traditional and folk medicine, celandine is used to treat skin diseases.

Common toadflax – beautiful yellow flowers in appearance resemble the open mouth of a lion, due to which the plant is popularly called “wild snapdragon”.

Some weeds disguised as garden plants are used by designers to create landscape compositions. This fashion came to us from Europe, where weeds cultivated by selective breeding adorn city alleys, parks and household plots.
