Fika: slowing down in the midst of New Year’s bustle

What do we know about fika?

Fika is a Swedish coffee break tradition in the midst of a hectic day at work. Every Swede practices fika every day: brews delicious coffee, takes a bun and enjoys 5-10 minutes of peace and tranquility. Fika is both a verb and a noun in Swedish. To be aware of yourself in the moment now, to feel the taste of cinnamon with sugar, to have a heart-to-heart talk with a friend during a break between work, to bring a colleague coffee from a nearby coffee shop and sit together for a couple of minutes – all this is fantastic. Such a break can be taken not only at work, but also when traveling, at home, on the street – anywhere you want to feel like a part of the world around you.

Deceleration

Fica is about slowing down. About sitting in a cafe with a cup of coffee, and not running with it in a paper cup on business. Fika is very different from Western traditions, as, indeed, everything Scandinavian. Here it is customary not to rush, because life is so interesting. Life is worth considering in more detail. Coffee in Sweden is more than just a drink, and fika breaks are eagerly awaited by young and old alike. With a cup of coffee and delicious pastries in Scandinavia, time stops.

Every Swedish office has a fika break. It usually happens in the morning or at noon. Fika is a way of life that is not so difficult to learn. The main thing is to be able to stop and see the beauty.

How to do fika every day

Time is running too fast, but we don’t have to run with it. Slow down, stop to see the beauty of this world – this is our goal for the remaining days of the outgoing year.

Bring your favorite cup and coffee to work if there is no coffee machine in the office. Fragrant tea, by the way, is also suitable. If you leave home for the whole day, pour a fragrant drink with you into a thermos. There is nothing better than enjoying homemade hot coffee in the cold. Bake cookies, bring to the office and treat colleagues (at least a few). The atmosphere of home and comfort will help you reboot in the crazy rhythm of the working day. During your lunch break, meet up with a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Finally hang your garland and enjoy the magic coming.

The most delicious cinnamon rolls

Cinnamon bun is a traditional Swedish treat. It’s perfect for fic!

Yeast 2,5 tsp

Almond milk 1 cup

Butter ½ cup

Flour 400 g

Cinnamon 1,5 tsp

Brown sugar 60 g

1. Pour the milk into a saucepan, add 3 tablespoons of butter and melt the mixture over medium heat.

2. Add yeast to the resulting mixture and leave for 10 minutes.

3. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and add all the flour ½ cup at a time, stirring thoroughly until the dough becomes viscous and sticky.

4. Form a ball from the dough and leave it for an hour in a warm place. The dough should double in size.

5. Sprinkle the table with flour so that the dough does not stick. When the dough is ready, roll it into a rectangle, brush with 3 tablespoons of butter and spread sugar and cinnamon throughout the dough.

6. Now carefully wrap the dough in the manner of a long tight roll. Cut into small pieces and put them in a baking dish.

7. Bake buns for 25-30 minutes at 180 degrees.
