Facial gymnastics: the facial gym to firm up your face
Facial gymnastics can make you smile or wince, in any case it has one goal: to firm the face by toning the muscles. The facial gym is an anti-wrinkle and firming method that requires more effort than applying a simple cream but which, over the years, would offer excellent results.
What is facial gymnastics used for?
Facial gymnastics has been a natural method in vogue since the early 2000s. It aims to firm the skin and relax facial tissues through various well-coded movements. The goal is of course to reshape the oval, to restore volume in the hollow parts, or to raise the cheekbones. It is also, and in the first place, to prevent wrinkles from appearing or in any case to slow down their appearance.
Awaken the muscles of the face thanks to the facial gym
The face has no less than fifty muscles. All of them have a different, primarily practical interest – to eat or drink – and also reflect our emotions. Laughter, with the most famous muscles of the face, the zygomatics, but also our multiple expressions. And this is where the shoe pinches, because we use the same muscles every day, without worrying about those, more discreet, which would benefit from being exercised.
Over time, these muscles can become sluggish or stuck. Facial gymnastics will wake them up. Especially when the skin begins to relax. The facial gym moves will sort of catch up with her through training.
Firm the face and slow down the appearance of wrinkles with facial gymnastics
Among the benefits given to the facial gym, there is that of helping the face to restart the production of elastin and collagen. This has the effect of restoring a base to the skin, allowing the wrinkle to relax in a way.
Facial gymnastics exercises
For the lion’s wrinkle
It is necessary to work the two muscles located between the eyebrows. To do this, you have to move your eyebrows up and down. Repeat 10 times in a row.
To tone the lower face
Stick your tongue out as far as possible, stay that way for 5 seconds, then start again. Repeat 10 times in a row.
How often should you do facial gym exercises?
According to Catherine Pez, author of Facial Gymnastics, a book first released in 2006 and republished several times since, the frequency depends primarily on the age and condition of the skin. There is, in all cases, an attack phase: every day for 2 weeks for mature or already damaged skin, to 10 days every day for younger skin.
The maintenance phase, which must therefore be carried out as long as one wishes thereafter, is limited to 1 to 2 times per week only. The muscles having memory, they will work even more easily.
It is therefore not a restrictive method, neither in terms of time nor in terms of material. It can even be integrated into a beauty and well-being care routine, after a scrub and a massage for example.
Precautions for facial gymnastics
Use a real one? method
As with any other gymnastics, facial gym should not be done without method and simply grimacing in front of the mirror. Not only will this not have the desired effect but, in addition, it could on the contrary create certain problems, such as for example a dislocation of the jaw.
Likewise, if you are learning online through tutorials, make sure that the person presenting the method to you has actual knowledge of the subject.
Consult a dermatologist
Dermatologists don’t just treat surface skin problems. You can also ask them for advice for your problem of sagging tissues, contours of the face. They will be able to tell you if facial gymnastics is a good method to reshape your face and tell you which movements to do as well as which to avoid.
Contraindications of facial gymnastics
Facial gymnastics is of course not dangerous as such. However, some people with jaw sensitivity should avoid or limit its practice to a few simple movements. This is for example the case of those who suffer from facial neuralgia or a chronic dislocation of the jaws. In the latter case, certain facial movements which relate more to osteopathy, and are therefore under the control of a practitioner, are however useful.
