There are internal and external causes of aging. Internal – those that we practically cannot control, in other words, the passage of time and genetics. But we can influence external factors that have a direct impact on the skin. Most likely, you will immediately think of the sun’s rays, but there are many other seemingly harmless daily habits that can ruin the condition of your skin.
Go to bed without removing your makeup
Avoiding washing your face before bed is a recipe for clogged pores and irritation, but did you know it can also lead to skin aging? First, such problems cause skin inflammation, which aggravates aging. Second, unless you cleanse your skin thoroughly, any anti-aging serums or lotions you use at night will not work effectively and penetrate the barrier of daytime makeup. Bottom line: cleansing your face before bed is non-negotiable.
Excessive diligence in removing makeup
How you wash and remove your makeup is very important. You need to understand that the skin, especially around the eyes, is a sensitive and delicate tissue. Do not pull or stretch it as this can contribute to the development of folds and wrinkles. It is best to shower at night with your face under the water for at least 5 minutes. Follow with a two-step cleansing process: first remove makeup with delicate micellar water and then use a mild cleanser to remove stubborn residues of mascara, lipstick or foundation.
Sugar love
Sugar can cause severe inflammation throughout the body, including the skin. This leads to early breakdown of collagen and ultimately to the appearance of wrinkles.
Sugar triggers a process known as – this is when proteins are exposed to high blood sugar levels. The immune system does not recognize these molecules, and inflammation occurs, causing cell aging. This is easier said than done, of course, but try to limit your sugar intake as much as possible. Substitute fruit whenever possible, or at least opt for dark chocolate over milk or white.
Forever pursed lips
About 90% of my patients have tiny vertical (purse string) wrinkles around the lips – they are also called “smoker’s wrinkles”, although smoking often has nothing to do with it. Constant lip curling, which we don’t really think about, creates these wrinkles. By the way, the love of chewing gum, cocktail straws and straws is also a sure way to such signs of aging. In order not to inject Botox and not to do other cosmetic procedures, learn to relax your face, massage your lips and learn a complex of mimic gymnastics. And so that the corners of your lips do not look down – the effect of an eternally displeased face – always smile a little!
Of course, it is better to entrust massage to specialists, but every day a simple 3-minute self-care is available to everyone. For it, first apply a moisturizer to your face. Using gentle circular movements, massage the area with your fingertips from the corners of the lips towards the wings of the nose and towards the center of the cheeks. Plus, gently pinch and tap your skin to boost circulation.
All life “on the phone”
Of course, we are attached to gadgets, but among other problems, they cause skin aging. I am talking primarily about the blue light emitted by electronic screens. It can penetrate the skin even deeper than the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which leads to the destruction of collagen. So see if your phone has a blue filter and activate it.
Wrinkles around the eyes can form after frequent squinting of the eyes, and wrinkles on the neck due to the constant tilt of the head. If you squint, change the font scale on the screen or buy glasses. And only your will can save the head forever bent over the gadget. Hold your phone so that your head is a natural “straight extension” of your spine, not a drooping flower bud.
Many people often forget about caring for their hands and apply cream to them only when the skin begins to dry. As you put on your daily makeup, think about your hands just as often. You can simply apply whatever skin care product you use to the back of your hand and rub it in.
