In this example, we will show how to show margins of error on a chart in Excel.
- Select a chart. A group of tabs will appear on the Menu Ribbon Working with charts (Chart Tools).
- On the Advanced tab Layout (Layout) click Error limit (Error Bars) > More options (More Error Bars Options). Note that to quickly add error bars to the graph, a standard deviation value of 5% of the considered value or 1 standard deviation is used.
- Find the parameter Direction (Direction). Check option All (Both).
- Find the parameter Edge style (End Style). Check option Point (Cap).
- Click fixed value (Fixed Value) and enter the value 10.
- Click Close (Close).

Note: For a scatter plot, Excel also displays horizontal margins of error. In this example, these limits have been removed.
