Enterobiasis in children: treatment, symptoms
Enterobiasis in children is a fairly common disease that most parents have to deal with. This ailment is provoked by parasitic worms – pinworms. Enterobiasis should not be underestimated, because the disease is quite dangerous and can lead to negative consequences for the health of the child.
Symptoms of enterobiasis in children
The main symptom of the disease is severe anal itching. Most often, it begins to bother the child in the evening, and it gets worse towards the night. The discomfort lasts about three days and then disappears. But after a few weeks, the itching returns. This is due to the migration of a new generation of parasites.
In the future, itching disturbs the child even more and does not stop day or night. The baby’s sleep and appetite are disturbed, he becomes restless and irritable. In addition, the disease is manifested by nausea, diarrhea and sudden weight loss.
Treatment of enterobiasis in children
For the treatment of the disease, antihelminthic drugs are prescribed. But the funds are quite dangerous and toxic. In addition, each drug has an age limit. Therefore, only a doctor can choose the most effective medication. In no case do not self-medicate, because it can lead to extremely negative consequences.
In most cases, the following drugs are prescribed:
- Piratel;
- Vermox;
- Nemozole;
- Albendazole.
Rectal suppositories, which have antiparasitic effects, help speed up the healing process. It is also recommended to carry out cleansing enemas before bedtime. For these purposes, you can use a water-salt solution, a decoction of wormwood or tansy. To prevent the spread of helminths, it is necessary to lay a cotton swab with petroleum jelly in the area of the baby’s anus.
It should be understood that with enterobiasis, treatment should be carried out by all family members. In addition, if there are animals in the house, then they should also purchase a remedy for worms. Dead parasites are not removed from the body, therefore it is recommended to take sorbents during treatment.
It is equally important to follow basic hygiene rules. Hands should be washed with alkaline soap before every meal. It is also recommended to carry out daily wet cleaning of the room and change the bed linen. The child’s panties need to be changed twice a day. In this case, the underwear should not only be washed, but also ironed.
Enterobiasis significantly reduces the protective functions of the body, and can lead to the development of various pathologies. Therefore, at the first sign of the disease, you must seek medical help.
