Elena Malysheva named three superfoods that must be eaten during Lent

The TV presenter spoke about their importance.

Every year Lent falls on a different date and begins after Maslenitsa. This year it started on March 15 and will run until May 1. Accordingly, believers adjust their diet, excluding meat, poultry, sausages, semi-finished products, dairy products, eggs, cheese, and alcohol.

The habitual diet changes markedly. During this period, it is based on: cereals and cereals in water without oil, vegetables and fruits, black bread or loaves, legumes, nuts and mushrooms, honey, confectionery (the composition should not contain dairy products and eggs). Note that fish can be eaten on Palm Sunday and the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Omega-3s should always be on your table, and in fasting it is generally a great thing. Because omega-3 is fat, high-calorie foods. And since meat is prohibited, this is a good way to get calories through plant foods, ”explained the doctor of medical sciences.

The TV presenter noted that omega-3 is not produced by the body, so it is very important to monitor the amount of unsaturated fatty acids. A deficiency can lead to problems with the functioning of the nervous system and the brain, with skin, hair, nails, sleep, concentration and joints.

Foods high in omega-3:

  • spinach,

  • Brussels sprouts,

  • oysters

  • mackerel,

  • sardines,

  • salmon,

  • eggs,

  • herring.
