In the post-30-year study called “Global burden of disease,” scientists have gathered a huge amount of information about people’s diet around the world. From 1990 to 2017, scientists collected data on the diet of millions of people around the world.
Estimated data of people 25 years and older — their lifestyle, diet, and the cause of death.
The main opening of this large-scale work was that over the years, from diseases associated with malnutrition, died on 11 million people, and from consequences of Smoking — 8 million.
The term “improper diet” means no unintended poisoning and chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus type 2, obesity, heart disease, and blood vessels), which cause — an unbalanced diet.
3 main factors of malnutrition
1 — excessive consumption of sodium (salt primarily). It killed 3 million people
2 — lack of whole grains in the diet. Because of this, it also suffered 3 million.
3 — low consumption of fruit for 2 million.
The scientists also identified other factors of malnutrition:
- low consumption of vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds, dairy products, dietary fiber, calcium, marine omega-3 fatty acids,
- high meat consumption, especially processed products from meat (sausages, smoked products, semi-finished products, etc.)
- passion drinks, sugar, and products containing TRANS fats.
Significantly, the improper diet was the leading risk factor for premature death, surpassing even Smoking.
