Covid-19: the government announces a recall campaign from mid-September for “people at risk”

Following a Health Defense Council held yesterday, the French government announced the establishment of a vaccination booster campaign from mid-September. A third injection of the vaccine will thus be submitted to people at risk, the list of which will soon be defined and disclosed by the Haute Autorité de Santé.

A vaccination booster campaign from mid-September

During his last televised address, Emmanuel Macron mentioned the possibility of a vaccine booster campaign for the most vulnerable. A strategy that was confirmed a month later, during a Defense Health Council held this Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Indeed, the government has just announced a recall campaign in mid-September. Gabriel Attal, the government spokesman, declared at the end of the Defense Council: ” The President of the Republic has decided to set up a vaccination booster campaign for populations at risk. It will be established by the Haute Autorité de santé “. He also said that appointments can be made from the end of August and early September.

Who are those who could be affected by a third dose of vaccine?

A third dose of vaccine is already applied in France for certain populations. In fact, the recommendations for the administration of a third dose for immunocompromised people aged 55 or over 55 were already published last April. This concerns immunocompromised people who have received an organ transplant, under lymphopenic chemotherapy or who have been treated with strong immunosuppressive drugs.

After immunocompromised people, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) thus predicted that the people most likely to be affected by this recall measure could be ” people at risk of developing a severe form, including the elderly and patients with co-morbidities “. Among this population, we can cite, among others, nursing home residents and people over 80 years old. According to the DGS, “ Work is already underway to anticipate the logistics flows linked to this booster dose. “. As for the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS), it is currently awaiting the results of additional studies to refine its strategy. She thus made it known that she ” will give its opinion as soon as the data are available, probably in the coming weeks ».
