Excel allows you to copy already created sheets, move them both within and outside the current workbook, and change the color of the tabs to make it easier to navigate among them. In this lesson, we will analyze all these features in as much detail as possible and learn how to copy, move and change the color of sheets in Excel.
Copy sheets in Excel
If you need to copy content from one sheet to another, Excel allows you to create copies of existing sheets.
- Right-click on the tab of the sheet you want to copy, and from the context menu select Move or copy.
- A dialog box will open Move or copy. Here you can specify before which sheet you want to insert the copied sheet. In our case, we will specify Move to endto place the sheet to the right of the existing sheet.
- Select the checkbox Create a copyand then click OK.
- The sheet will be copied. It will have exactly the same name as the original sheet, plus a version number. In our case, we copied the sheet with the name January, so the new sheet will be called January (2). All contents of the sheet January will also be copied to the sheet January (2).
You can copy a sheet to any Excel workbook, as long as it is currently open. You can select the required book from the drop-down list in the dialog box. Move or copy.
Move a sheet in Excel
Sometimes it becomes necessary to move a sheet in Excel to change the structure of the workbook.
- Click on the tab of the sheet you want to move. The cursor will turn into a small sheet icon.
- Hold down the mouse and drag the sheet icon until a small black arrow appears at the desired location.
- Release the mouse button. The sheet will be moved.
Change sheet tab color in Excel
You can change the color of the worksheet tabs to organize them and make it easier to navigate the Excel workbook.
- Right-click on the tab of the desired worksheet and select the item from the context menu Label color. The Color Picker will open.
- Choose the desired color. When hovering over the various options, a preview will appear. In our example, we will choose red.
