Comfrey (Latin Symphytum officinale) is a forgotten plant with invaluable medicinal properties. It has been used in herbal medicine for centuries, its characteristic black and purple root is especially valuable.
Comfrey is found throughout the country, belongs to the borage family and is a common plant. Perennial reaches a height of 30 to 150 cm, the period of its flowering is in late spring – months: May and June. Its flowers may be purple in color or, in the less common variety, white.
The plant likes moist areas, the vicinity of rivers and reservoirs, roadside ditches and forest edges. It owes its name to its use in the treatment of bone injuries. Colloquially, it is sometimes called a “living gun”.
