Cold Weather Face Care

Frosts are coming to Novosibirsk – a rare case for this warm winter. Siberian women will have to remember that in cold weather the skin suffers and needs protection. Cosmetologist Angelika Alekseeva shared the secrets of winter care and recipes for magic masks for the skin.

At low temperatures, blood vessels constrict, and the wind intensively dries out the skin. In addition, blood supply and tissue nutrition is disrupted, metabolism worsens. Therefore, in winter we often look pale – the skin of the face is very dry in winter, peeling, redness occurs. So in winter, facial skin care should be different than in summer.

Choose more oily creams. They will protect your skin from cold and wind, keeping it youthful and elastic. In winter, the properties of the skin change: oily becomes combined, combined in properties approaches normal, while normal turns into dry. A baby cream is ideal, which not only provides protection, but is also hypoallergenic. Before going to bed, I recommend applying oil, such as Johnsons Baby, to your face to keep the skin soft and not flaky.

The lips also suffer greatly from the cold wind and frost. Have in your arsenal a hygienic lipstick or lip balm containing healthy oils: tea tree, castor, linseed, sea buckthorn or coconut, as well as vitamins. Do not lick or bite your lips outside. If your lips are flaky or even chapped, you can use honey. Put it on your lips at home – this is a well-softening mask, and it tastes good too.

Be careful with moisturizers – it is better not to use them before going outside. In addition, in winter, wash only with warm water so that there are no sudden changes in temperature. Use a chamomile tonic or herbal decoctions: sage, chamomile, linden, calendula. The skin will not be irritated, because herbal infusions will have a calming effect on it. Do not rub your face with ice cubes – this treatment makes the skin even more sensitive to cold. Forget about scrubs for a while or replace them with more gentle means (no more than 1 time per week), so as not to injure the skin irritated from severe frost and wind even more.

In winter, the skin needs more nutrients. I recommend using creams with vitamins and minerals. They will improve and refresh the complexion, as they activate metabolic processes in the skin, increase its tone and elasticity, and reduce puffiness. You need to nourish the skin with vitamin creams in the evening, after removing makeup and before going to bed.

Do not forget about the wonderful properties of cosmetic masks, which perfectly moisturize the skin, make it softer and velvety. All masks must be applied to cleansed skin after removing cosmetics. Keep the masks for 20-30 minutes, it is best to lie down, relax, you can turn on pleasant music. Then the mask must be washed off with boiled warm water and applied to the face with a thin layer of cream. In winter, face masks should be applied either in the evening or at least 4–5 hours before going outside, especially in severe frost. In the cold season, masks should be done more often than in the warm – at least twice a week. These masks are easy to make at home.

One of the most effective masks, nourishes the skin with vitamins, softens and moisturizes it, suitable for all skin types. Mix one tablespoon of ground oats with one tablespoon of vegetable oil, add one egg yolk, one teaspoon of lemon or orange juice.

Grate the pumpkin pulp on a coarse grater and mix with the same amount of sour cream. This wonderful vegetable mask made from fresh pumpkin will soften, fortify and moisturize any facial skin, as well as relieve puffiness.
